Hey y'all! Well, it's been quite awhile since I've been seen around these parts, but I did want to jump on in with a couple of updates.
I am still sewing and quilting of course, but find little time to write and share photos beyond sporadic Instagram posting. I've been teaching a little bit too, including a super fun seasonal Foundation Paper Piecing workshop at Needlework here in Hamilton last month.
One major thing I have to share (if you've been following the news I'm sure you already know some of the ins-and-outs) is the demise of my Craftsy shop. Not to go into too many of the nitty-gritty details, but basically, Craftsy decided to shut down the shops of many independent designers (including some very well-know people in the quilt industry); even those whose shops weren't shut down are being told which patterns they are and are not allowed to sell (for serious).
I was told by Craftsy staff that some designers would be invited back to the platform later in the year, but I think they've really burned some bridges here (I know designers who weren't culled but who are leaving anyway because of this). I've been with Craftsy since the very beginning and have the personal emails from when they first launched where they asked me to help them promote the site. We were in talks for me to do classes for them, but I didn't feel ready at the time. They actively promoted my patterns in blog posts, newsletters, on FB, etc. And then this. It doesn't feel good.
Designers were only given a week's notice that this was happening, and that week fell over the holidays (my shop was shut down on Dec 28th). Suffice it to say, that left little to no time to research new options for hosting my free patterns and templates. All pay patterns were already in my Etsy shop, so that's good to go but a few sets of free templates and cross stitch patterns were only on Craftsy. Those templates will, unfortunately, remain unavailable until I can find another good hosting medium. I'll let you know when they have a new home!
And last but not least so that this post isn't completely devoid of pictures, and to give an older tutorial a little bit of love, let's take a look back at the Pieced Center String Blocks tutorial!
I posted this tutorial 8.5 years ago and it is still one of the most popular posts on the entire site. On occasion, people still send me pictures of quilts using this tutorial (or the sister coaster tutorial). So in honour of Moda hosting a "String Quilt Along" (follow #modastringquilt on IG), I thought I'd remind everyone about this little beauty!
8-9 years ago, string quilt were all the rage in the quilting community, so this was just my little take and adaptation of a more traditional style. It's so fun to see that strings quilts are, once again, having a little mini resurgence!
Anyhoo, I best sign off now, and no promises, but I will do my very utmost to not let another year and a half go by without posting!

Meet + Make
Hey y'all! So I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be teaching an English Paper Piecing class at the end of the month at Meet + Make.
Meet + Make is a full day creative workshop hosted by The Makers Nation.
Participants will be able to choose two workshops from a total of six
to participate in throughout the day; these workshops include such awesomeness as Silk Screening and Book Binding (more info below). Breakfast, snacks, lunch, and
happy hours drinks are all provided in the registration cost.
Ohhhh now, doesn't that look like fun?! As I mentioned, there are six workshops to choose from, these include: English Paper Piecing, Book Binding, Silk Screening, Wood Carving, 3D Printing, and Instagram 101. I think it's going to be a super-awesome day.
And, as a little something extra, I have a $25 off coupon code that I'm sharing with you guys. If you think this is and event that you'd like to check out then you should definitely use it to register here (there is also a "bring a friend option" that allows to people to participate for a discounted price). The code is: MM_Teach
I cannot wait to meet some new faces and to hang out with such creative individuals for the day - I am so excited!!

Sewing Summit 2013: All the Friends!
Hey y'all! So I debated with myself for awhile about whether my first post-Sewing Summit post should be about my class, the general experience (lost luggage *cough*), or everything else. But I realized while going through pictures, looking at Instagram, and seeing some other blog posts pop up, that all I really want to blog about right now is my friends and all of the super-cool people I got to meet.
My awesome roomie came bearing gifts...
Dinner with a great group of girls who laugh when I curse or say something a little irreverent...
There were great friends that I only get to see very occasionally (come to Toronto!)...
Although, this can occassionally lead to fisticuffs too...
Or inappropriate pictures of Kaye trying to take a picture of friends at dinner...
See? Inappropriate!! And occasionally friends say things like "I like people who like me" and strike a super-cute pose...
And you get to meet some other people for the first time in real life...
Ale (sitting beside me) and I talk HP all of the time on Instagram and Jess (in the red Mickey Mouse sweater) is always so positive towards me that I just want to smooch her! Jana was almost my roommate and Jessie (who is awesome) taught a class at Sewing Summit too! And yep, that is indeed Heather Bailey standing behind me.
I had a wonderful time hanging out with all of the ladies and I'm a little sad that I don't have more pictures of everyone else that I met! I'll be back soon with more pictures and stories from Sewing Summit!

Sewing Summit 2013: I'm Teaching!
Hey y'all! Some of you may know about this already if you're following me on Instagram or have been reading the Sewing Summit blog, but I've got some pretty fun and exciting news - I'm teaching this year!!
Yay! I will be teaching English Paper Piecing and the class will be based on my own pattern. Although not available yet, the pattern will also be made available on my blog as a tutorial. I'm very excited to be teaching this class and I think it will be a lot of fun - you should definitely join me! *wink*
Here's a little screenshot of my bio for you! In case you haven't heard of it, Sewing Summit is a modern sewing and blogging conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year the conference will be taking place September 19th - 21st and I think (unlike last year) that there are still a few tickets available.
I had a really great time last year and am so excited to be seeing some friends again, and hopefully I'll be making some new peeps too! Make sure to check out the teachers page on the Sewing Summit website, but take note that all of the teachers haven't been announced yet - there will be more goodness to come!
