Well, it's been quite awhile since I've been seen around these parts, but I did want to jump on in with a couple of updates.<br />
<br />
I am still sewing and quilting of course, but find little time to write and share photos beyond sporadic <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kayeprince/">Instagram</a> posting. I've been teaching a little bit too, including a super fun seasonal <a href="http://www.iloveneedlework.com/december-2018/products/foundation-paper-piecing-tree-tree-gnome">Foundation Paper Piecing</a> workshop at <a href="http://www.iloveneedlework.com/">Needlework</a> here in Hamilton last month.<br />
<br />
One major thing I have to share (if you've been following the news I'm sure you already know some of the ins-and-outs) is the demise of my Craftsy shop. Not to go into too many of the nitty-gritty details, but basically, Craftsy decided to shut down the shops of many independent designers (including some very well-know people in the quilt industry); even those whose shops weren't shut down are being told which patterns they are and are not allowed to sell (for serious).<br />
<br />
I was told by Craftsy staff that some designers would be invited back to the platform later in the year, but I think they've really burned some bridges here (I know designers who weren't culled but who are leaving anyway because of this). I've been with Craftsy since the very beginning and have the personal emails from when they first launched where they asked me to help them promote the site. We were in talks for me to do classes for them, but I didn't feel ready at the time. They actively promoted my patterns in blog posts, newsletters, on FB, etc. And then this. It doesn't feel good.<br />
<br />
Designers were only given a week's notice that this was happening, and that week fell over the holidays (my shop was shut down on Dec 28th). Suffice it to say, that left little to no time to research new options for hosting my free patterns and templates. All pay patterns were already in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/MissPrintHandmade">Etsy shop</a>, so that's good to go but a few sets of free templates and cross stitch patterns were only on Craftsy. Those templates will, unfortunately, remain unavailable until I can find another good hosting medium. I'll let you know when they have a new home!<br />
<br />
And last but not least so that this post isn't completely devoid of pictures, and to give an older tutorial a little bit of love, let's take a look back at the <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2010/07/tutorial-pieced-centre-string-quilt.html">Pieced Center String Blocks tutorial</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc_oIlag3UaYeJQcUTKlCLDpIo_Vg29vTGSEUV_NsNP-7kOYxdJhewYyeDPMwSMHW-rZNad_PQ83uppPCkIXM-QrYcNDijaPfofcMjKCsyT4YA9-KsXYUHyG7bYTSnXDMLMnfxwBqBf_s/s1600/String+Quilt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="375" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc_oIlag3UaYeJQcUTKlCLDpIo_Vg29vTGSEUV_NsNP-7kOYxdJhewYyeDPMwSMHW-rZNad_PQ83uppPCkIXM-QrYcNDijaPfofcMjKCsyT4YA9-KsXYUHyG7bYTSnXDMLMnfxwBqBf_s/s1600/String+Quilt+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I posted this tutorial 8.5 years ago and it is still one of the most popular posts on the entire site. On occasion, people still send me pictures of quilts using this tutorial (or the <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2010/08/tutorial-pieced-centre-string-block.html">sister coaster tutorial</a>). So in honour of Moda hosting a "String Quilt Along" (follow <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/modastringalong/">#modastringquilt on IG</a>), I thought I'd remind everyone about this little beauty!<br />
<br />
8-9 years ago, string quilt were all the rage in the quilting community, so this was just my little take and adaptation of a more traditional style. It's so fun to see that strings quilts are, once again, having a little mini resurgence!<br />
<br />
Anyhoo, I best sign off now, and no promises, but I will do my very utmost to not let another year and a half go by without posting!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-83320885267265156712017-06-08T17:34:00.000-04:002017-06-08T17:34:11.867-04:00Bella Skill Builder: Block 5Hey y'all! So, I'm a bit of a dolt - I made my blocks for the <a href="https://blog.fatquartershop.com/bella-skill-builder.html">Bella Skill Builder</a> two weeks ago and then completely forgot to post. Forgive me, it's been a long couple of weeks and I had friends over on the weekend for crafty time!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgspyWczKUH18XBOWgo24AUZOx0WxKr-EvaZ59GDrPehyHOGOaL4fy8S2_Vdj75WedBacLdxluxjmOsAk0EKX4K-bGjBaSI7205a7egedVHJBoeL2usV00R8x06aWnYpkVkioQYg2Im7ME/s1600/20170605_075051+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="488" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgspyWczKUH18XBOWgo24AUZOx0WxKr-EvaZ59GDrPehyHOGOaL4fy8S2_Vdj75WedBacLdxluxjmOsAk0EKX4K-bGjBaSI7205a7egedVHJBoeL2usV00R8x06aWnYpkVkioQYg2Im7ME/s1600/20170605_075051+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This block uses another new to me technique - making half square triangles with <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/3-half-square-triangle-paper">Triangles on a Roll</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_hqOFfG6Lf5DtLzdiC-DbqjdQu7gg6LjbiRtPAItui6NzD4P7m_7aViTPV5YWeRUSzDUJR7-ci7OjvxWosp0v-Udd-iFwXGhfNCbcgkroPHhjYAl9pkcfeiRBGLFRH5Hg5utgf4ktncs/s1600/20170605_075145+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="827" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_hqOFfG6Lf5DtLzdiC-DbqjdQu7gg6LjbiRtPAItui6NzD4P7m_7aViTPV5YWeRUSzDUJR7-ci7OjvxWosp0v-Udd-iFwXGhfNCbcgkroPHhjYAl9pkcfeiRBGLFRH5Hg5utgf4ktncs/s1600/20170605_075145+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Triangles on a Roll are fun and super-easy! It takes a little patience to get the paper pinned down in such a way that it is flat and not bunchy, but once it's all down, it makes the process much faster. I neglected to shorten my stitch length (again, I am a dolt) so I had a little bit more trouble ripping the paper off but still easy-easy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
For these blocks I used <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/moda-fabric/bella-solids-moda-fabrics-quilting-fabrics/">Moda Bella Solids</a> in Off White, Spearmint, and Clementine. <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">At the end of each post for this Quilt Along, I'll be posting links to my previous posts, so check them out if you so decide:</span></span><br />

It's that time again - more blocks for the <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.ca/p/bella-skill-builder.html">Bella Skill Builder</a> quilt along. Woot!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The blocks for this month were three easy and quick sets of flying geese! After last month's very time consuming pineapple blocks, this was a nice change of pace (especially since I had a bunch of other quilting I wanted to get done).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijGL1h0IUAIJhM2KsTQEe4HFungRDfL-pUvk5_JZL9hi55zUS45jEJnIgwTW1sfKBpRt7G6KIvEJWPOthP82rWSU4O13fWIys_f7I7ofyzpIVCYH-FU5Sntp9Yw-z9zLFdeJEP0W-UKoM/s1600/20170502_075257+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijGL1h0IUAIJhM2KsTQEe4HFungRDfL-pUvk5_JZL9hi55zUS45jEJnIgwTW1sfKBpRt7G6KIvEJWPOthP82rWSU4O13fWIys_f7I7ofyzpIVCYH-FU5Sntp9Yw-z9zLFdeJEP0W-UKoM/s1600/20170502_075257+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The method used for constructing these geese was new to me. I generally utilize the no-waste method, but these were made using the <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/small-flying-geese-ruler">Small Flying Geese Ruler</a> from Quilt in a Day. Right now it's a bit of a toss up as to which method I like more - using the method for this ruler was much faster, but it generates more waste then the other (i.e. some versus none). The waste amount really wasn't a lot, so...<br />
<br />
For these blocks I used <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/moda-fabric/bella-solids-moda-fabrics-quilting-fabrics/">Moda Bella Solids</a> in Off White and Flamingo (which I've realized going back through pictures is a really hard colour to get a decent shot of - the tone always seems different). <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">At the end of each post for this Quilt Along, I'll be posting links to my previous posts, so check them out if you so decide:</span></span><br />

It's time again for another round of blocks from the <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.ca/p/bella-skill-builder.html">Bella Skill Builder</a> hosted by <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBntZ7FL7HjkUBVpo2J-4_-bjeZiPXmHfqAIdninKvlD5pt7Ku_6GgORXe_-0-wB5t-rcqe9ntI2S0uKUQXzrJvZSd1ek4OFGBuloWTZnjZlxcMvFKbPd7dTyQwQCOlxiDPkPjavEfgxk/s1600/20170402_115142+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBntZ7FL7HjkUBVpo2J-4_-bjeZiPXmHfqAIdninKvlD5pt7Ku_6GgORXe_-0-wB5t-rcqe9ntI2S0uKUQXzrJvZSd1ek4OFGBuloWTZnjZlxcMvFKbPd7dTyQwQCOlxiDPkPjavEfgxk/s1600/20170402_115142+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This month's blocks (7 individual blocks in all) were pineapples and it was my first time making them. I love the look and how the colours seem to overlap, but wow (!!) so time-consuming! I'm also not enamoured with the amount of fabric waste these blocks generate; it's a good thing they look so neat!<br />
<br />

<br />
I used the super-fancy <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/creative-grids-pineapple-trim">Creative Grids Pineapple Trim Tool</a> which made the process relatively easy and pain-free. For these blocks I used <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/moda-fabric/bella-solids-moda-fabrics-quilting-fabrics/">Moda Bella Solids</a> in Turquoise, Clementine, and Flamingo. <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">At the end of each post for this Quilt Along, I'll be posting links to my previous posts, so check them out if you so decide:</span></span><br />

How's everyone doing? Last year I made an <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2016/02/kisses-x-16.html">X-Plus quilt</a> for my friend Austin when he and his husband adopted a beautiful baby girl; as I was making the quilt I started thinking about how the X-Plus block could really lend itself well to English Paper Piecing. So I did what any self-respecting quilter would do and drafted my own templates.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_1QL-U3doC8XbRcV6BkzoXSsZLWMVf7RGpmOHYFpiar41BSYNwgy_SFYvjzu_tIZnTX01iK-eJu0Fo_veMOLg0IYt1hXuSwuYJNfX1gsK_VKP-ysC4zlI7YxJAFaUsGCstAdvtP5ZXXQ/s1600/IMG_20170304_153854+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_1QL-U3doC8XbRcV6BkzoXSsZLWMVf7RGpmOHYFpiar41BSYNwgy_SFYvjzu_tIZnTX01iK-eJu0Fo_veMOLg0IYt1hXuSwuYJNfX1gsK_VKP-ysC4zlI7YxJAFaUsGCstAdvtP5ZXXQ/s1600/IMG_20170304_153854+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
And, because I couldn't keep the templates to myself once they were all done up, <strike>I've posted them to my Craftsy shop (for free)</strike> <b>Templates currently unavailable due to Craftsy shakeup</b>! The blocks finish at 10" square (which is another modification I made to the original X-Plus pattern) meaning that if you want to make a 40" square baby quilt, you need to make 16 blocks.<br />
<br />

I made two samples (and had some lovely pattern testers make some more - which we'll get to in a later post); the first one I grid quilted and bound just for fun, and this second one... well, I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Maybe the beginnings of a brand new quilt?!<br />
<br />

<br />
Now, what you can <strike>download from Craftsy</strike> is not a pattern per se, but is rather all the templates needed to make a block, so you do need to know the basics of EPP as there are no instructions included. The templates are spread across two pages and you need the pieces from both pages to make one block. That means that you can make as few or as many blocks as you want without having to worry about not having the right number of pieces.<br />
<br />
If you decide to make a block, and you're on Instagram, please share using the hashtag #xplusepp - if you check it out over on IG you'll see other blocks that have already been posted - fun fun!<br />
<br />
I really hope you guys like the templates and can't wait to see what you make!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-16600853967479387322017-03-01T14:25:00.000-05:002017-03-01T14:25:24.563-05:00Bella Skill Builder: Blocks 2A & 2B<span id="goog_554180099"></span><span id="goog_554180100"></span>Hey y'all! So, it's the beginning of a new month and that means some new blocks for the <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.ca/p/bella-skill-builder.html">Bella Skill Builder</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span id="goog_554180095"></span><span id="goog_554180096"></span><br />
<span id="goog_554180095">This month's blocks feature Orange Peels - which is something I have never attempted before! So, since I've never tussled with these blocks, I decided to test out two different methods. Why not, right?</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiQPe9Pi417IqYn5Z-mkDURVMJ_oeksCwRWWWRJNj3o2yeDUD-dptbe-L_TC826ankbjGk0TmrcXxgAVKaCZ_GVZhzzrd_PHBT9T9zauAts_xrx4b1LjEDaxmUwQHgoJcuYOb4u9Wyr1E/s1600/20170301_075305+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiQPe9Pi417IqYn5Z-mkDURVMJ_oeksCwRWWWRJNj3o2yeDUD-dptbe-L_TC826ankbjGk0TmrcXxgAVKaCZ_GVZhzzrd_PHBT9T9zauAts_xrx4b1LjEDaxmUwQHgoJcuYOb4u9Wyr1E/s1600/20170301_075305+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<span id="goog_554180095">The first set I did utilizing the larger of the Orange Peel templates. For these ones, I decided to use the fusible interfacing method outlined in <a href="http://www.sewcanshe.com/blog/2015/1/31/classic-blocks-fresh-fabric-for-february-orange-peel-blocks-with-a-free-template">this tutorial</a>. While I liked the turned under edges you get with this method, I found that I had a hard time getting nice sharp points. It was also a bit more time consuming because there are more steps involved. This method also gives a slightly puffier look because the fabric itself isn't fused to the background.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmHkeED5mJL2p265549BxhwyPqMMhY9MZnOdoSA6J1TLhXS-o07h73tM-i7BhLR5KLKH2bK78PaAcJHu0HOK77LAm_W1_Mef3E4ghC3pnpJ8AerByCpZPOvdTdoEnKPSW623lio7_vYkM/s1600/20170301_075205+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmHkeED5mJL2p265549BxhwyPqMMhY9MZnOdoSA6J1TLhXS-o07h73tM-i7BhLR5KLKH2bK78PaAcJHu0HOK77LAm_W1_Mef3E4ghC3pnpJ8AerByCpZPOvdTdoEnKPSW623lio7_vYkM/s1600/20170301_075205+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<span id="goog_554180095">For both blocks that utilized the smaller Orange Peel templates, I used fusible adhesive. I don't have any tutorials to point to since I love fusible for sketchy applique and have used it a bunch! This method is definitely faster and everything is nice and sharp because the peels are simply cut out and fused. A lot of people don't like the look of this type of fused applique because they think it looks "unfinished" but I adore it actually!</span><br />
<br />
<span id="goog_554180095">As I mentioned before, I'm switching up the colours for this quilt. So for these three blocks I used <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/moda-fabric/bella-solids-moda-fabrics-quilting-fabrics">Moda Bella Solids</a> in Boysenberry, Marigold, and Clementine. At the end of each post for this Quilt Along, I'll be posting links to my previous posts, so check them out if you so decide:</span><br />

I'm back with another fun little block to share! Remember, a <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2017/01/bella-skill-builder-introduction.html">couple of posts ago</a>, I shared a picture of how I was keeping my Bella colours organized using my Scrappy Project Planner? Well, here's another fun thing about this planner - it includes scrappy quilt projects too! FQS has decided to tackle each of these scrappy blocks and asked if I'd like to <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.ca/2017/02/scrappy-planner-sew-along-week-3.html">sew along too</a> and, of course, I said yes! My block is the Patchwork Tulip.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsKzMavNhPv9YQ4hX6rsz15YwHQUX3FzNsB-5p3ZWp7TWMAOl9NW8gSf7-jRFpTjSr7yGwrTdS8V1UlooNqbvpzn9j-f9Am-wCafiuiB_bw3fXCDnBr_J9DGvVsoE5T5MNLN6lGt-Lkk/s1600/IMG_20170217_074208+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsKzMavNhPv9YQ4hX6rsz15YwHQUX3FzNsB-5p3ZWp7TWMAOl9NW8gSf7-jRFpTjSr7yGwrTdS8V1UlooNqbvpzn9j-f9Am-wCafiuiB_bw3fXCDnBr_J9DGvVsoE5T5MNLN6lGt-Lkk/s1600/IMG_20170217_074208+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For fun, I went a little crazy with my colour choices! For the tulip head, I selected various shades of dark purple and raspberry, and two grades of orange for the stem. The Tula Pink fabric I used for the leaves, actually contains some of the same dark purple and raspberry shades so I thought it was a fun pairing. I chose three different white-on-white neutrals for the background fabrics.<br />

This block came together very quickly without a lot of fuss. I loved being able to dive into my scrap bin to select some much loved scraps for this one.<br />

You can find the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/scrappy-project-planner-by-lori-holt-70970">Scrappy Project Journal</a> on the Fat Quarter Shop website. I've never been very good at keeping track of my projects and planning things out ahead of time, but I've enjoyed using this so far for the Bella Skill Builder.Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-27598842781326403002017-02-06T19:06:00.001-05:002017-02-06T19:06:29.505-05:00Bella Skill Builder: Blocks 1A & 1BHey y'all! Welcome back for the first blocks for the Bella Skill Builder. In case you missed the <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2017/01/bella-skill-builder-introduction.html">introductory post</a>, this quilt along runs from February to September this year and will feature new blocks at the beginning of each month.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr4TrG2CaF0Hc5kV49TFpjMJeM6fYU2ZrGDbFLHznkXZ9WoeH3s8KUCObSvf_KKvziwwK5gsDneiSNb6zzEPa1Fx6oE3srERJBeGxiomhXR3EhDQv5CCFzRfXmmAYNup6RhEckp7Oz1O0/s1600/20170206_165416+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr4TrG2CaF0Hc5kV49TFpjMJeM6fYU2ZrGDbFLHznkXZ9WoeH3s8KUCObSvf_KKvziwwK5gsDneiSNb6zzEPa1Fx6oE3srERJBeGxiomhXR3EhDQv5CCFzRfXmmAYNup6RhEckp7Oz1O0/s1600/20170206_165416+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first set of blocks are kaleidoscope blocks that can be made using either a spiderweb ruler or the template included in the free pattern. I totally messed up the trimming on the B block (the one featuring four kaleidoscopes) which is why it looks a bit wonky, but oh well, I'm okay with it! The Bella Solids used this time around include Turquoise, Marigold, and Off White.<br />
<br />
You can find the <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.ca/p/bella-skill-builder.html">main Bella Skill Builder page</a> on the FQS blog. This page will be updated each month with the new block patterns and video tutorials, you can also find links for all of the other bloggers hosting posts for the quilt along. I'm really excited to see how this one tuns out since I switched up all of the colours - it will be like a little surprise every month!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-13638755830738675412017-01-31T22:02:00.004-05:002017-02-01T11:13:27.502-05:00Bella Skill Builder: IntroductionHey y'all! So, this week kicks off the Bella Skill Builder Quilt Along hosted by <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a>. I've been asked to quilt along with everyone and I'm pretty excited! There are nine block sets, and each block set will be released as a free pattern through FQS on the first of the month for the next nine months; you can also buy a <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/bella-skill-builder-quilt-kit/">kit to make yourself a quilt in the original colours</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicNlCeIyCKykIfcRl5SXBG8pL4-sQaET5iCr2bduqREdyk69q9U8I7wAlVAoNwgWD1cBEEteZoI95dn_1Hox4ES8PXkcaqX1OEqsXBDR_Ch6oQ0kUxdmLHy1y2iznA2X8E7WH4QMI-TGE/s1600/Logo+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicNlCeIyCKykIfcRl5SXBG8pL4-sQaET5iCr2bduqREdyk69q9U8I7wAlVAoNwgWD1cBEEteZoI95dn_1Hox4ES8PXkcaqX1OEqsXBDR_Ch6oQ0kUxdmLHy1y2iznA2X8E7WH4QMI-TGE/s1600/Logo+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Because it's how I roll I decided to change up the colours I'm using...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibP_XY13AqUATkqUk-Ay63vKena-FKS79j6BQr7RHh_b1Tmh13rVmn4QpStRfeObY7QDFSQjq8EzAljDk5RkAD-EmXG0M4Cjhj4__iMVeWrlKjP0lJjB1Y8ROwqpoaR0VbEBTlOP7g12A/s1600/20170128_142606+-+EDIT+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibP_XY13AqUATkqUk-Ay63vKena-FKS79j6BQr7RHh_b1Tmh13rVmn4QpStRfeObY7QDFSQjq8EzAljDk5RkAD-EmXG0M4Cjhj4__iMVeWrlKjP0lJjB1Y8ROwqpoaR0VbEBTlOP7g12A/s1600/20170128_142606+-+EDIT+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Ohhhh, pretty! In order to keep my colour swap outs clear, I used my <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/scrappy-project-planner-by-lori-holt-70953">Lori Holt Scrappy Project Planner</a> to keep some swatches handy.<br />

<br />
All of the colours I've selected are Bella solids from Moda, and they include Boysenberry, Marigold, Clementine, Flamingo, Turquoise, Spearmint, Bluebell and Off White.<br />
<br />
I'll be posting my first set of blocks this weekend, so come on back then to see them! I haven't participated in a quilt along in a very long time and I'm happy to get in on this one - I love learning new skills and using new tools.<br />

As I mentioned in my last post, I recently got married. While I didn't get to add quite as many handmade details as I originally thought I would, one of the things that I really wanted to do was knit a shawl that I could wear. And I did...<br />

This is the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KayePrince/newfoundland">Newfoundland</a> pattern by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/anne-lise-maigaard">Anne-Lise Maigaard</a> (part of her Canadian Geography series) and it is practically perfect in every way! I've had this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/madelinetosh-tosh-lace">Madelinetosh Tosh Lace</a> yarn in Alabaster in my stash for a little while and knew that I wanted to use to knit my shawl. I stumbled across the Newfoundland pattern and knew right away that it was the one as Alex and I had already decided to honeymoon in Newfoundland.<br />

I didn't wear the shawl for the ceremony but wore it for a number of our pictures. It wasn't a major part of my wedding day attire, but I really wanted to have something I had made myself to mark the occasion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRwu5PpTlD55E7RO7Is3vmArZ1bvcXxO1_rrHHWjifoDEtz7WyfF13_jPje9axSR2bra6vtjeTHkE6eqqYyP8qXqnC6aQhN22eM9tvYgAQ5B0ohcPk3HY54aXxmo9QRkrYspqtTipsoeY/s1600/Newfoundland+Shawl+3+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRwu5PpTlD55E7RO7Is3vmArZ1bvcXxO1_rrHHWjifoDEtz7WyfF13_jPje9axSR2bra6vtjeTHkE6eqqYyP8qXqnC6aQhN22eM9tvYgAQ5B0ohcPk3HY54aXxmo9QRkrYspqtTipsoeY/s1600/Newfoundland+Shawl+3+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Surprisingly, it took less than a month to knit. Considering that I hadn't knit with lace previously, and that I had to frog and restart it once, I think that's pretty speedy! It blocked out so drapey and soft; I don't think it could have been more perfect for what I wanted.<br />

Alex and I recently returned home from taking a much needed vacation (and honeymoon!) in Newfoundland and PEI. We had a lovely time hiking, cod jigging, eating, and just generally relaxing. I also took a little time to start a new quilting project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxd2IE01tBlvkPpNvr2enwSH7rgvPYaFSBlIM9j4s-X0b_Wo8PM1rlwvtAwDLPt1yYb-81a0yRLOiE3ylcSqGTDdah7oYVzkcjpQG5CVmaNi9E6wmFcOGe__dFIov_9LU6O5b8lpnftaQ/s1600/EPP+1+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxd2IE01tBlvkPpNvr2enwSH7rgvPYaFSBlIM9j4s-X0b_Wo8PM1rlwvtAwDLPt1yYb-81a0yRLOiE3ylcSqGTDdah7oYVzkcjpQG5CVmaNi9E6wmFcOGe__dFIov_9LU6O5b8lpnftaQ/s1600/EPP+1+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is just the beginning of an entirely hand pieced and hand quilted quilt. It's going to take forever, but I'm in love already!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-40293373610839207272016-07-10T18:20:00.001-04:002016-07-10T18:20:26.479-04:00Hex-cell-ent!Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? So, the good people over at <a href="http://bemakeful.com/">Makeful</a> asked me to participate in a little challenge they were hosting to decorate cellphone cases. Being that I'm a quilter, I tried to think of a way to use fabric to decorate the case (not very easy once I started thinking of all the ways that wouldn't work very well), and I came up with this wee idea!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg03T0wYw__4yKmfPYVXmlQA8qB3mjQMjh4XjYGHnM0W60ANGG0802F1-u0z8ZuHOPtTEhkZHoP8e9lTaaJvfWegHbFOV7slAAAUutm4O4A1IkK82c4U1O29NcrTlnwYt9Lqpdnf6IbMF0/s1600/Hex+1+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg03T0wYw__4yKmfPYVXmlQA8qB3mjQMjh4XjYGHnM0W60ANGG0802F1-u0z8ZuHOPtTEhkZHoP8e9lTaaJvfWegHbFOV7slAAAUutm4O4A1IkK82c4U1O29NcrTlnwYt9Lqpdnf6IbMF0/s1600/Hex+1+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Unfortunately, they weren't able to get a hold of a case that would fit my Galaxy, so they sent me one for an iPhone 6. Luckily, it fits my iPod Touch almost exactly. The camera hole is a little off but since I never use the camera on my iPod - not a big deal!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1l4RyJ9SMr7KbAC0m40F92sI6-Tr6FcBq5l51P5aAiwiRiKs3VqjW4Mqcc321tDmw75A-efbLYdssxAY6aEH0YHZyyFco-NuCkJwqYLxTQWwSRPLECXjxKgU6D1EgSoLAiAQPY9grKf0/s1600/Hex+3+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1l4RyJ9SMr7KbAC0m40F92sI6-Tr6FcBq5l51P5aAiwiRiKs3VqjW4Mqcc321tDmw75A-efbLYdssxAY6aEH0YHZyyFco-NuCkJwqYLxTQWwSRPLECXjxKgU6D1EgSoLAiAQPY9grKf0/s1600/Hex+3+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some little <a href="http://www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/departmenthome/dept/fabrics">Liberty</a> scraps from my stash and made the hexies using the English Paper Piecing method I describe in this <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2012/07/tutorial-quilt-as-you-go-hexie-coasters.html">tutorial</a>; these hexies are 1/2" per side. I was worried about the hexies lifting off the case or the fabric getting dirty and grubby, so I adhered them to the inside of the case rather than the outside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDA3VYaTNUCxmkVnkrftHDy2uix5qAtVfh26NzJgZAxtvV3F5iegQpq0XFQ4X9ai4_mUoqw5ti30fInQFGwUkt16sqBKYDrVxOSuu5PIDd3BkriXh7lS1LXYfGbhUophE56Cp8gYcAmao/s1600/Hex+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDA3VYaTNUCxmkVnkrftHDy2uix5qAtVfh26NzJgZAxtvV3F5iegQpq0XFQ4X9ai4_mUoqw5ti30fInQFGwUkt16sqBKYDrVxOSuu5PIDd3BkriXh7lS1LXYfGbhUophE56Cp8gYcAmao/s1600/Hex+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Can we talk about how hard it is to take a picture of a clear phone case?! So many reflections! I love how the hexies look like they're floating in the case, and it's pretty fun to be able to show off some much-loved fabric prints.<br />
<br />
P.S. In case you're wondering where I've been the last few months, I was very busy getting married and stuff! It was a great day and we had so, so, so much fun.Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-31978735908092478172016-02-26T15:40:00.000-05:002016-02-26T16:02:05.082-05:00Kisses x 16Hey y'all! Well, phew, it's been a little while since I've posted. I actually have a few quilts and other things to share (including two new patterns), but life has been crazy busy. To start things rolling, I thought I'd show off my most recent finish!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtT4UTg-Y5JJSwjkufYwb_LBlv-hy-Am65-SdW-7ADlb1HBHc1F_zSW8d-wvETXPRdePSvJlH5D0O6MOjbVWC4dj5Sulj0dEHdQhZ3PJmyNTch_W_K1f5j4g7YEQc4YkJs1eLkPuebqOw/s1600/Maddie+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtT4UTg-Y5JJSwjkufYwb_LBlv-hy-Am65-SdW-7ADlb1HBHc1F_zSW8d-wvETXPRdePSvJlH5D0O6MOjbVWC4dj5Sulj0dEHdQhZ3PJmyNTch_W_K1f5j4g7YEQc4YkJs1eLkPuebqOw/s1600/Maddie+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I started this quilt back in December but just finished it at the very beginning of this month; since it has now been gifted, I can share! My friend Austin and his husband adopted a beautiful baby girl in November and so, of course, they needed a quilt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt32GKifXPkmuQ2bZZj1FtenintXtIjyu9j6-XJKkOshuLg2fAAH7kx4xxH0vkvv2SIEiiXas8gpf0IaP5q-ge2V1cfGsrWYNaxOnlm2ZyEmOozDc4wbOpaC_v0vuyUSWj0M25w1tBCBo/s1600/Maddie+4+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt32GKifXPkmuQ2bZZj1FtenintXtIjyu9j6-XJKkOshuLg2fAAH7kx4xxH0vkvv2SIEiiXas8gpf0IaP5q-ge2V1cfGsrWYNaxOnlm2ZyEmOozDc4wbOpaC_v0vuyUSWj0M25w1tBCBo/s1600/Maddie+4+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I had all kinds of wild ideas when I originally set about designing this quilt, but in the end I was inspired by the Japanese X-Plus block; I modified the sizing and also made it symmetrical. Out came the graph paper and pencils (and ALL the math), and I created a variation on the block that finishes at 10" square with the corners stones and X being symmetrical to the centre Plus.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXRAO1UFn0EZv2A5RfPmqhyphenhyphenZ0FhsAaz0wz1k-PEjcqnKGKXrfsstWxD-c0gzTFE_pMP0i6x_xZLno1Gnt_CT-_y0suEV9y3brZdDXw2u37opWGKoYfqfT212nl3dxbhfYwavd4G_D2fCQ/s1600/Maddie+8+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXRAO1UFn0EZv2A5RfPmqhyphenhyphenZ0FhsAaz0wz1k-PEjcqnKGKXrfsstWxD-c0gzTFE_pMP0i6x_xZLno1Gnt_CT-_y0suEV9y3brZdDXw2u37opWGKoYfqfT212nl3dxbhfYwavd4G_D2fCQ/s1600/Maddie+8+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I dug through all my fabric bits looking for cheerful prints with nice contrast. Because she's fabulous, and I pretty much love everything she does, the majority of prints are Lizzy House (Cat Nap, Constellations, Pearl Bracelets, etc) with a healthy splash of Heather Ross, Anna Maria Horner, Violet Craft, and a few others. The background fabric is + Your Heart from Katarina Roccella's Wonderland collection. It was a toss up between this and one of the XOXO greys from Cotton + Steel, but I thought this grey would work a little better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs0Y6k3IHIpyHeUU62gEx7PLv321b6LOwLI6Sz1rr0cdNjGB2TpXKxfFc5AAOUODRoa9IVNDGEpKi_7onNYAR1Sjs5w7z_OyLe1HgObh7sBg5sjgHjEDMvRLAYgW7P7-cP9xUZwYewvZQ/s1600/Maddie+6+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs0Y6k3IHIpyHeUU62gEx7PLv321b6LOwLI6Sz1rr0cdNjGB2TpXKxfFc5AAOUODRoa9IVNDGEpKi_7onNYAR1Sjs5w7z_OyLe1HgObh7sBg5sjgHjEDMvRLAYgW7P7-cP9xUZwYewvZQ/s1600/Maddie+6+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The pieced backing includes a little more Heather Ross as well as an older print from Heather Bailey (from Pop Garden which I think was 2008 or 2009?). The Heather Ross is from the Crafty Chloe collection she did back in 2012 for Hancock; <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/">Jeni</a> picked this up for me and I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it and this was definitely it! The binding is another oldie from the Ava Rose collection by Tanya Whelan (2008, I think); I don't generally like to use white bindings, but I really liked the way it was playing off all the colours in the quilt. With the exception of the grey background fabric on the front, everything for this one came from my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinrOLhmKIrC1ByBJTMZ6Y1teR5x1P6EFw9ddL-Oce9GZWslBYeZ3fOcCysgp-o38AIArm0SXLPF_FVHRm-gs4nzKySvgJ5RoraqaNwiMGSbaZ7p_yRsC3gR1fgEIiRW31TSUCJZOLFrBI/s1600/Maddie+7+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinrOLhmKIrC1ByBJTMZ6Y1teR5x1P6EFw9ddL-Oce9GZWslBYeZ3fOcCysgp-o38AIArm0SXLPF_FVHRm-gs4nzKySvgJ5RoraqaNwiMGSbaZ7p_yRsC3gR1fgEIiRW31TSUCJZOLFrBI/s1600/Maddie+7+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I quilted this little guy on the diagonal. Just some simple straight lines, but I think the diagonal adds a little interest without taking away from the fabric choices. Kittens, and hedgehogs, and foxes, oh my!<br />

How's everyone doing? I'm just popping in to let you all know about a fun little kit Stitch, Craft, Create has put together for my <a href="http://www.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/cool-colourblock-tote-kit#.VhVWiSvR_9U">Cool Colourblock Tote</a> pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The <a href="http://www.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/cool-colourblock-tote-kit#.VhVWiSvR_9U">kit</a> includes 6 solid fat quarters, as well as the downloadable pattern. My original pattern was written for the book <a href="http://www.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/50-fat-quarter-makes?source=igodigital#.VhVX6ivR_9U">50 Fat Quarter Makes</a> which was just published in May by David & Charles; this bag is colour blocked on both the interior and exterior, is fully reversible, and features a handy little pocket. Because of the use of fusible fleece, it is lofty and can be quilted as little or as much as you want!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I also thought I should announce the winner of our most recent giveaway! How's everyone doing? Have you guys heard about the great collaboration between Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop called <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0NYV1kU534&list=PLNTabBf7OG9LRH0Q3">AGF Stitched with Kimberly</a>? This awesome little collaboration showcases fresh quilt designs from the AGF team and presented (for free) by FQS. Each pattern is also available as a video tutorial on the FQS YouTube. That's pretty cool in my book!<br />

<br />
The third in this series is <a href="http://static.fatquartershop.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/Welded-Pattern.pdf">Welded</a>. This quilt is on point! *chuckle* <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Unfortunately my fabric did not arrive in time for me to actually begin work on my quilt top, but at least I can share the fun fabrics I picked out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_bPuxiAWQuSHnBNheHtkHnLwZIJiQ5Et8P3l-oZJM3GO1YX3j-76kXbA6NXMZknUU1HSpNJ5UwOtwmIHhVzxXunX7bLPN6408P3JVP6_NdM0-lPqUfIp-GLyswt-2AS99-TNLWHFIHY0/s1600/Fabric+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_bPuxiAWQuSHnBNheHtkHnLwZIJiQ5Et8P3l-oZJM3GO1YX3j-76kXbA6NXMZknUU1HSpNJ5UwOtwmIHhVzxXunX7bLPN6408P3JVP6_NdM0-lPqUfIp-GLyswt-2AS99-TNLWHFIHY0/s1600/Fabric+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
All of these fabrics were generously supplied by Art Gallery and I can't wait to use them! It's really hard to see in the pics, but the top splatter-y looking fabric is actually metallic... be still my fabric-loving heart! The fabrics come from a few of their newer collections including <a href="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/cgi-bin/fabricshop/gallery.cgi?Category=134">Imprint</a> and <a href="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/cgi-bin/fabricshop/gallery.cgi?Category=136">Succulence</a>, among others (and, in case you're wondering, the awesome metallic is from Succulence). I chose the text print (from <a href="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/cgi-bin/fabricshop/gallery.cgi?Category=132">Happy Home</a>) for the backing and I just love it so much! It reminds me of everyone's favourite Ikea text print, but soooo much better!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifNtCAPwGgs0cMYSjoaJ8CsLrwTmtm6gBMpJIDYgiiq2_qCAfCIHGKuLbuW0kCRtQfn6kzxiuOzlHuo4ByQPm8fVzB0TMmePWkv6HvYt87RIkjebKtJUABVhcg79zFftCUOUz1tQaz6w0/s1600/Welded+Quilt+1+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifNtCAPwGgs0cMYSjoaJ8CsLrwTmtm6gBMpJIDYgiiq2_qCAfCIHGKuLbuW0kCRtQfn6kzxiuOzlHuo4ByQPm8fVzB0TMmePWkv6HvYt87RIkjebKtJUABVhcg79zFftCUOUz1tQaz6w0/s1600/Welded+Quilt+1+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Both a <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/welded-quilt-kit">quilt kit</a> and a <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/backing-set-welded-quilt-kit">backing set</a> using fabrics from the Artisan are available from FQS to go along with the Welded pattern. The free PDF pattern is <a href="http://static.fatquartershop.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/Welded-Pattern.pdf">available right here</a> and the tutorial is available on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3hqJBGdt9A">FQS' YouTube</a>! Go forth and make all the quilts!!<br />
<br />
Now, to make up for my inability to review the pattern and my lack of a finished quilt to share, I thought we'd do a giveaway. Because, you know, everyone loves a good giveaway!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Because I'm really feeling this right now, I am giving away a <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/laguna-night-imprint-fat-quarter-bundle">fat quarter bundle</a> in the laguna night colourway from Katarina Roccella's Imprint collection for AGF. Isn't is lovely?!<br />

How's everyone doing? I've been away from the blog from a bit - busy with work, a trip to Scotland (we got engaged!) and sewing up a big project for my mum's 50th birthday. Now this big project is what I want to share today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvqc1uGeUNVFFlJhcblUUor915hafejli2vY3k3bcFJ1_qI4xBJAzrrDc1nYUJ_BiPziXHNJwmdaMZh2K6rBcZUcGgcD6OSU5_Z0nZc4uoeZMpY6oMUUYnovAlqFpwxZJXjC5B19Pe7u4/s1600/P8223800+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvqc1uGeUNVFFlJhcblUUor915hafejli2vY3k3bcFJ1_qI4xBJAzrrDc1nYUJ_BiPziXHNJwmdaMZh2K6rBcZUcGgcD6OSU5_Z0nZc4uoeZMpY6oMUUYnovAlqFpwxZJXjC5B19Pe7u4/s1600/P8223800+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Isn't he lovely? <a href="http://www.violetcraft.com/">Violet</a> released a picture of this pattern right before Spring Quilt Market this year and I just knew I had to make him for my mum! My mum is a Leo, has a lion tattoo, and with the big 50 fast approaching I knew that the present would need to be big too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFFd9TDBjNi4G9nqaynA9d3oBSMdyGu8swC8CVQXVQvFA0UfTMza3gPAd-u43GV39c-jThHG0vO-crk2nYcV8yvAP6KfkJ9AnOCqbTyqtZGK8mLM79OZhWoyJlzOCSLL7nyQbO3i4K1mU/s1600/P8223799+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFFd9TDBjNi4G9nqaynA9d3oBSMdyGu8swC8CVQXVQvFA0UfTMza3gPAd-u43GV39c-jThHG0vO-crk2nYcV8yvAP6KfkJ9AnOCqbTyqtZGK8mLM79OZhWoyJlzOCSLL7nyQbO3i4K1mU/s1600/P8223799+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.violetcraft.com/pdf/jungle-abstractions-the-lion">The Lion</a> is the first pattern in Violet's Jungle Abstractions series and is all paper-pieced. The design is very clever and while there are a ton of pieces, the pattern goes together very smoothly. It is time-consuming (and I am not the fastest paper-piecer in the world), but I really enjoyed the process.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtEXLUIxjZ6Fj8ZmNa2S1pwpPOVk3jjBQ3c_8cA-Y_337pnpACN8jpJjhV7yLVKOWKWsJsDeZDmdj2eqIqC5qYeU5FrDcz1nCejQsTIBFIaPFbzg2SspoZe0hObe-GIAeT7dDOfvGAwX4/s1600/P8223792+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtEXLUIxjZ6Fj8ZmNa2S1pwpPOVk3jjBQ3c_8cA-Y_337pnpACN8jpJjhV7yLVKOWKWsJsDeZDmdj2eqIqC5qYeU5FrDcz1nCejQsTIBFIaPFbzg2SspoZe0hObe-GIAeT7dDOfvGAwX4/s1600/P8223792+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
With the exception of the white solid (which is Kona), I used all <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/shop/basics/cotton-couture.html">Michael Miller Cotton Couture</a> solids and the hand is just beautiful and it was nice to work with. To get the proper depth (and because I thought my mum would like the colours), I used all of the same colours that Violet recommends for the pattern If you are on Instagram, you can check out the #jungleabstractions hashtag to see some of the amazing colour and pattern combinations that other quilters have been coming up with. Checking out that hashtag (or <a href="https://instagram.com/kayeprince/">my profile</a> over there), you can also see all of my in process pics!<br />

How's everyone doing? I am exhausted, as I just returned home from a 10-day trip to Scotland (more about that in another post). One of the many secrets I've been keeping is that I was asked to contribute to another book, and I finally get to share it all with you!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaKzEJwSaVzqgimNdLEZq36JPo3v-J2pJ-uXSVCC_X29f_6NULzUYJ9NyTRMKyA0hCYFJqptqcFUQ6ZXCdl-SLiPlqu9RLhyphenhyphenDFRq2HuU1l1gwUKqJJkWkRFzAyXRwWzoXFC-7pSs53Q9o/s1600/Cover+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaKzEJwSaVzqgimNdLEZq36JPo3v-J2pJ-uXSVCC_X29f_6NULzUYJ9NyTRMKyA0hCYFJqptqcFUQ6ZXCdl-SLiPlqu9RLhyphenhyphenDFRq2HuU1l1gwUKqJJkWkRFzAyXRwWzoXFC-7pSs53Q9o/s1600/Cover+500.jpg" /></a></div>

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/50-Fat-Quarter-Makes-Projects/dp/1446305910/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434064311&sr=8-1&keywords=50+fat+quarter+makes">50 Fat Quarter Makes</a> is edited by Ame Verso and published by David & Charles (an imprint of F&W), it features 11 designers (including me) and we've decided to do a little blog hop to celebrate its release - links for all the designers at the end of this post!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr_tKsxDhqHCpLBt1LBvpdJCUYr93WqWW5GQSGj7jgP9FdOk5tUimTEN_5x0j-26lY2i7BajYJjhyu_S8uY6nR_CGo2G2GNTGJOYsj-OtPUkZ351019s4unV-tyLgBLdI3Qunu5z2z7o4/s1600/50FQ3+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr_tKsxDhqHCpLBt1LBvpdJCUYr93WqWW5GQSGj7jgP9FdOk5tUimTEN_5x0j-26lY2i7BajYJjhyu_S8uY6nR_CGo2G2GNTGJOYsj-OtPUkZ351019s4unV-tyLgBLdI3Qunu5z2z7o4/s1600/50FQ3+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
50 Fat Quarter Makes is divided by the number of fat quarters each projects takes to complete - from one singular FQ up to 10. My first pattern, the Charming Coin Purse, uses only one FQ and features a faux leather bottom and tab.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRxgs_swRN1S9tvvhGSjA0zZhaBOCP_Sq7F_PHwPFqEjvZGDSpm_ldeL39Jm9fqukx8ijHdb1vyc0u0dlMz0qeUtdzstOtJ9OUhkWSVyNsOdSnPMKDyopsQfE0mP0x7ScTuCZ3Nowffhc/s1600/50FQ4+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRxgs_swRN1S9tvvhGSjA0zZhaBOCP_Sq7F_PHwPFqEjvZGDSpm_ldeL39Jm9fqukx8ijHdb1vyc0u0dlMz0qeUtdzstOtJ9OUhkWSVyNsOdSnPMKDyopsQfE0mP0x7ScTuCZ3Nowffhc/s1600/50FQ4+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My second pattern, the Colourful Clutch Purse, uses just two FQs and features a wide strap that not only secures the clutch in its foldover position, but can also be slipped over the wrist for a little added security. Just a note: somehow the instructions for adding the faux leather tab were added to this pattern too; just ignore that part, although if you do decide to add it, it will totally still work as the tab is highly decorative.<br />

<br />
My third pattern, the Elegant E-Reader Case, uses three FQs and features a front pocket that is secured by a handmade button. The case is padded, quilted, and perfectly fits a 7" reader.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjBEBr-lt0oYISmCuDnr7NZXicZ2vkDCYwRN3bt2sAwGvUTridid52O9_vteeO0QXCTCyAls4P81-4BDTIuPZ9OK3aCVdozGp5IT5jtbv9jNxj84FSmfs3yyf7aEmbliFsEyedTjBqhZE/s1600/50FQ9+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjBEBr-lt0oYISmCuDnr7NZXicZ2vkDCYwRN3bt2sAwGvUTridid52O9_vteeO0QXCTCyAls4P81-4BDTIuPZ9OK3aCVdozGp5IT5jtbv9jNxj84FSmfs3yyf7aEmbliFsEyedTjBqhZE/s1600/50FQ9+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My fourth pattern, the Cool Colourblock Tote, uses six FQs and features boxed corners and a small inside pocket. It is interlined with fusible fleece and I quilted one of the outer colourblocks (the gray) to add some extra texture. Because of the construction of this tote, it is fully reversible allowing you to feature different colours/prints depending on mood.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieksULzZxQ496gRRDUSpHwoM_Qw0kIbFWZ8MUcUYB3J4MMmAUn_sHG8AoNXPEpsmRnD6zojviA-B4HMPrO7MC71_guipLS_Ig-THld8hWZZzAIph9cDppNgPWsNqww5NHODflTCfU4SGs/s1600/50FQ7+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieksULzZxQ496gRRDUSpHwoM_Qw0kIbFWZ8MUcUYB3J4MMmAUn_sHG8AoNXPEpsmRnD6zojviA-B4HMPrO7MC71_guipLS_Ig-THld8hWZZzAIph9cDppNgPWsNqww5NHODflTCfU4SGs/s1600/50FQ7+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My fifth and final pattern, the Double-Sided Star Pillow, uses 10 FQs and is reversible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ_MWtg1rWr1Vru_Q-7s5KpzdxTCXEOD4GomwMmhrjAeY7To6Kj4ML5fccy_1ZrBs9V2BaKu6nisK2FXZ-PbbNHEZgskBI7h8OcIjot66ZXFmg6DGe-IPcLrJ8oxTISkOFp0EeBowxkjc/s1600/50FQ8+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ_MWtg1rWr1Vru_Q-7s5KpzdxTCXEOD4GomwMmhrjAeY7To6Kj4ML5fccy_1ZrBs9V2BaKu6nisK2FXZ-PbbNHEZgskBI7h8OcIjot66ZXFmg6DGe-IPcLrJ8oxTISkOFp0EeBowxkjc/s1600/50FQ8+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I used eight prints in two colourways from Tula Pink's Saltwater collection, as well as two gray solids. This pillow is huge - about 30" square-ish - and would be great for lounging on!<br />
<br />
Phew! Now that's a lot of projects! I am really happy with the way the book turned out and am enamoured with all of the other patterns created by this talented group of designers. Here's a list of the other blog hop participants and their dates (I'm right at the end, so be sure to check out their blogs/previous posts to see their patterns):<br />

How's everyone doing? I am thrilled to have been asked to participate in the <a href="http://ideas.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/stash-busting-blog-hop/">Stash-Busting Blog Hop</a>, and today is my day! There are two books featured in this blog hop, but I'm only going to focus on <a href="http://www.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/sweet-simple-scrap-sewing#402059">Scrap Happy Sewing</a> by Kim Kruzich right now. I may have my reasons for saving the other book for another day *wink*!<br />
<br />

<br />
I had a little bit of extra time over the weekend after finishing the quilting on a little baby gift, so I decided to get started on one of the projects in the book. This little hoop is part of the Simple Cloud and Raindrop Hoops pattern; I used a print from Indian Summer for the background and a lovely Liberty tana lawn for the raindrop itself. This little hoop is made using one of my absolute favourite sewing techniques - sketchy applique!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw1aWEdXaLToEMa0mDJNtvwzSKgToLfs6x744IprDnTIp8_kZSqpKGLJHgsbDG1ykKSUx4KWBQgPxGpar9mMdHu8MfbkL3Ci1cXsNZEsPm-hrNlVD2NO4AvhguCzZuBqg3nPwmUaRTPIk/s1600/Stash+Busting+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw1aWEdXaLToEMa0mDJNtvwzSKgToLfs6x744IprDnTIp8_kZSqpKGLJHgsbDG1ykKSUx4KWBQgPxGpar9mMdHu8MfbkL3Ci1cXsNZEsPm-hrNlVD2NO4AvhguCzZuBqg3nPwmUaRTPIk/s1600/Stash+Busting+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the full pattern set from the book. The templates include the cloud and four different sizes of raindrop; mine above uses the largest size raindrop in a 6" hoop.<br />

<br />
I'm sure many of you have heard of Kim, better know as <a href="http://retro-mama.blogspot.ca/">Retro Mama</a>, or read her blog. I am absolutely thrilled for her and the book is fabulous. If you'd like to see even more projects from the book, be sure to check out her <a href="http://retro-mama.blogspot.ca/">blog</a> as she's been posting lots of pictures over the last little bit.<br />

<br />
After I finish off my little hoop, this is the next project I want to make from the book! This is the Fox Clothespin Bag and I think it's flippin' adorable! See the thing is though, I don't have a clothesline, so I need to figure out another fun way to put these little guy to use because I really am in love.<br />
<br />
Frankly, all of the projects in Scrap Happy Sewing are adorable and I want to make at least one of everything (the Easy as Pie Apple Potholders? My gosh!) and I think you will too! If you're at all interested, Stitch Craft Create is hosting a giveaway for this book, the other book I mentioned (try to figure out why I'm not talking about it in this post!), and a bunch of fat quarters. You can enter that giveaway and see all of the other blog hop participants <a href="http://ideas.stitchcraftcreate.co.uk/stash-busting-blog-hop/">here</a>.Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-87501799368957393322015-04-15T14:31:00.000-04:002015-04-24T09:21:47.680-04:00Giveaway Time - a little April Rhodes!Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? I thought it was about time we had another little fabric giveaway and the lovely folks over at <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a> agreed! Now this little bundle of loveliness may already be sitting in my cart waiting for me at FQS, and I hope you like it just as much as I do.<br />
<br />

<br />
This beauty of a <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/air-wanderer-fat-quarter-bundle">fat quarter bundle</a> contains the Air colourway from <a href="http://april-rhodes.com/blogs/creative-journal">April Rhodes'</a> most recent collection Wanderer. Isn't it gorgeous?! I had the pleasure of meeting April at spring Quilt Market last year and she is truly a generous and sweet lady.<br />
<br />
Now, as I said, this little bundle is already sitting in my cart waiting for me, but I was also thinking about purchasing a small amount of yardage to have stashed, but I can't decide which print I like more. Maybe you can help?<br />

Last month I participated in a little Instagram <a href="https://instagram.com/explore/tags/knitallthethingsswap/">swap</a> with friends called Knit All the Things - it was super-super-fun! Not only did we swap yarn, patterns, and other knitting-type lovelies, many of us made a little something for our partners as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLKUDxyTVFfwIuy_op3aZtTDNVbr-mgpznpBuBqVoBX4LnCODQxPV-1w2lVHZAFA-WDaZRzL4TnnH3gFSz0PLssbKC08hUP4YrU62PgZlMgd_hzRs4A7rvfIKL-aF5iMGolXeEs4Urpgk/s1600/Paper+Piecing+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLKUDxyTVFfwIuy_op3aZtTDNVbr-mgpznpBuBqVoBX4LnCODQxPV-1w2lVHZAFA-WDaZRzL4TnnH3gFSz0PLssbKC08hUP4YrU62PgZlMgd_hzRs4A7rvfIKL-aF5iMGolXeEs4Urpgk/s1600/Paper+Piecing+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to use Shannon's free pattern and made a <a href="http://veryshannon.com/patterns/reversibleboxtote">Reversible Box Tote</a> for my partner, Meg. Instead of adding the pocket, I decided to paper piece this little "knit" insert. I realized after mailing my package that I could have actually turned this bit of paper piecing into a pocket, which not only would have been easier but also more practical. Oh well, c'est la vie!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPPi69kC4qdE34vi8Xy8Jqvms5F_7XeHlwOkMk0MXAoY8tyrZ0XkLOvLnAcnfcSuCmT7D6V-vhpHyr-nLw0gOP4GETRgXnWpo-Wo2m2I7x0xaRQb-DEJeaU9Lvk-kW6GnsBJC83Q4MMfo/s1600/RBT+1+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPPi69kC4qdE34vi8Xy8Jqvms5F_7XeHlwOkMk0MXAoY8tyrZ0XkLOvLnAcnfcSuCmT7D6V-vhpHyr-nLw0gOP4GETRgXnWpo-Wo2m2I7x0xaRQb-DEJeaU9Lvk-kW6GnsBJC83Q4MMfo/s1600/RBT+1+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the finished tote. I used an Art Gallery print for the outside and paper piecing, and a print from Zen Chic's Comma for the interior. I quite like how it turned out and Shannon's pattern is fab! Of course, I forgot to take a picture of everything else I included in the package (Hazel Knits and Madelinetosh yarns), but I did get a picture of what I received from the lovely Jennifer!<br />
<br />

<br />
Just to nip any confusion in the bud straight off, this lovely book by <a href="http://alicecarolineblog.co.uk/">Alice Caroline</a> is also known as "Little Lady Liberty" in the UK (which is a title I just adore by the way).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4FNUN6ffHGRpPPz5S45lo_kPbKFngfF_m-8L48SL9Yfm3-1dRZ0JYSrKzkRnTec99B2hXIgdxLe2T4aptlxo2b3nu_5fhjp-NbEkCsuPNndm3tUaCAoAU6W_lK7Xc1xrZGVd1lY7J9WY/s1600/Sew+Pretty+Cover+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4FNUN6ffHGRpPPz5S45lo_kPbKFngfF_m-8L48SL9Yfm3-1dRZ0JYSrKzkRnTec99B2hXIgdxLe2T4aptlxo2b3nu_5fhjp-NbEkCsuPNndm3tUaCAoAU6W_lK7Xc1xrZGVd1lY7J9WY/s1600/Sew+Pretty+Cover+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This book is just full of lovely Liberty goodness, and you know I love me some Liberty! While the book is marketed as projects for little girls, I think many of them (such as the Isabel Baskets, Rosie Floor Cushion, or Zoe Lampshade) could work for just about anyone depending on the fabric choices.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGa_erjlivqQL8lQl_Pcgzg8sZggRq2Us6BJqi3z1xujiJzxmvcFTGPIKnzXm6KJJS4qmYk5BOGorNYEABV8Sw0x14Tpeq82SVoJq2jsFgR1fsUbzRg0H0ESb8QHHrXeqDgMeQKuQbJjI/s1600/Mia+Doll+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGa_erjlivqQL8lQl_Pcgzg8sZggRq2Us6BJqi3z1xujiJzxmvcFTGPIKnzXm6KJJS4qmYk5BOGorNYEABV8Sw0x14Tpeq82SVoJq2jsFgR1fsUbzRg0H0ESb8QHHrXeqDgMeQKuQbJjI/s1600/Mia+Doll+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Case in point, my Grandma is turning 85 in June and I'll be making her the Mia doll! She absolutely loves this type of doll, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to make one for her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNifzvIS7g8iCFXdeyodHUx2roDfQ8XzLMXdrF-eWY7r3o2j6rrlkDDRQ2lkvCo-qyHKQFeytzeluAGojPPD8kIIwIpQ-3UT-4QweeFWhpiV2xG4euX_PphonKPdHq-7PMTv9boj_VAV4/s1600/Mia+Fabrics+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNifzvIS7g8iCFXdeyodHUx2roDfQ8XzLMXdrF-eWY7r3o2j6rrlkDDRQ2lkvCo-qyHKQFeytzeluAGojPPD8kIIwIpQ-3UT-4QweeFWhpiV2xG4euX_PphonKPdHq-7PMTv9boj_VAV4/s1600/Mia+Fabrics+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
These are the fabrics and trimmings I'm thinking of using for the dress portion of the doll. All of the fabrics are Liberty quilting cotton and I'll be using the pink for one side of the dress and one of the blues for the other (I'm leaning towards the pale blue in the middle right now).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidXLfO6L13lbjJE6_Vv6IF65wCR65vUdXxolW1il_vBUpFy5eeDYtpbZ8MbigntaobCBWChnLNJPuRnsAnJfaytnuYrz57yWBmPNEfnsPT54Vh5Sc4xgWhVmCSzmC5eP2bEAmKTCDULHw/s1600/Orla+case+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidXLfO6L13lbjJE6_Vv6IF65wCR65vUdXxolW1il_vBUpFy5eeDYtpbZ8MbigntaobCBWChnLNJPuRnsAnJfaytnuYrz57yWBmPNEfnsPT54Vh5Sc4xgWhVmCSzmC5eP2bEAmKTCDULHw/s1600/Orla+case+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll also definitely be making myself a variation on the Orla Pencil Case, because I have this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbohY6KPN1TULSyiFPH91akmds-iv5inhOT06rE4U1fqnYRkAMnhU4h-gq7cccVMoufviIZt6t3iV0DvsWMSm80shhTA22brTPPFh0dzln5HAjFtHZqLC21wQoZ26k355RPXpOIcLlna0/s1600/Liberty+Scrap+Stash+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbohY6KPN1TULSyiFPH91akmds-iv5inhOT06rE4U1fqnYRkAMnhU4h-gq7cccVMoufviIZt6t3iV0DvsWMSm80shhTA22brTPPFh0dzln5HAjFtHZqLC21wQoZ26k355RPXpOIcLlna0/s1600/Liberty+Scrap+Stash+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Liberty scraps! This is just a snippet of my Liberty scrap stash and I think making an Orla would be the perfect use for them (I'm also contemplating some EPP clamshells). Yep, this book is giving me all kinds of ideas!<br />

So, as usual, over the past while I have been up to some secret antics and I finally get to reveal one of those secrets!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfO5rK_q0rgFkqP2XcJkllYxkiRdTq5t4Y8W0_AGu9T0BBrHY33NOlHa7i7J5RZKRNj7ywPSS-DdJC35Q2pz_Vd9y59kVlFaIHbHCNAQBqR-12kZ4A_Dd3TcXrX_kspHdEWlNH36gCUo/s1600/Cover+3+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfO5rK_q0rgFkqP2XcJkllYxkiRdTq5t4Y8W0_AGu9T0BBrHY33NOlHa7i7J5RZKRNj7ywPSS-DdJC35Q2pz_Vd9y59kVlFaIHbHCNAQBqR-12kZ4A_Dd3TcXrX_kspHdEWlNH36gCUo/s1600/Cover+3+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm in another book and I'm so excited about it! <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Quarters-Small-Fabrics-Ideas/dp/1454708794/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1426720698&sr=1-1&keywords=fat+quarters">Fat Quarters: Small Fabrics, More Than 50 Big Ideas</a>, edited by Lark Crafts, features over 50 fat quarter friendly projects. Many of the contributors are well known in the craft world and I'm super-happy to be among them. I have three projects in this book and I can't wait to share them with you.<br />
<br />

This is my Arrowhead Clutch. It requires three fat quarters and features paper-pieced triangles. I absolutely love the way they photographed it for the book - it looks so fancy! I used fabrics from Indian Summer by Sarah Watson and Kaufman Quilter's Linen.<br />

This is my Flex Frame Sunglasses Pouch. It requires two fat quarters and is super-easy to make. For this one I used fabrics from Briar Rose by Heather Ross and Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander. I've actually been using this ever since it came back because I dropped my iPod and now the screen is cracked. See, it works for so many things!<br />

And last, but not least, this is my Cheers Coaster Set. I love these so much, I can't even tell you! This pattern requires four fat quarters and features a little bit of sketchy applique as well as a few lines of quilting. For these I used the same fabric from Architextures, as well as Constellations and Pearl Bracelets by Lizzy House.<br />
<br />

How's everybody doing? I've been crazy busy, but thought I'd pop in to share this little mini I made.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6nKTqj9_sY2ussogwRJ_4ss7UxH79vwMBlMUwh2k7foJg_R4tDD_tsqyN71soEddNnvZfIE5OwP_jammHv4z904QzP3DES6AxNL38VHev-7vbKVR5H2p0B_wrHl5xaYqocgiTFbfKSA8/s1600/Arrow+1+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6nKTqj9_sY2ussogwRJ_4ss7UxH79vwMBlMUwh2k7foJg_R4tDD_tsqyN71soEddNnvZfIE5OwP_jammHv4z904QzP3DES6AxNL38VHev-7vbKVR5H2p0B_wrHl5xaYqocgiTFbfKSA8/s1600/Arrow+1+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I made this little guy for <a href="https://instagram.com/stitchkaylastitch/">Kayla</a> for the Schnitzel and Boo Mini Quilt Swap on Instagram. Ever since I released the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/122262296/orion-a-quilt-pattern-by-kaye-prince-of?ref=shop_home_active_4">Orion pattern</a>, I've wanted to make a mini just using the paper-pieced arrow portion. After reading over Kayla's list of likes I dislikes, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to do just that!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicL5hp-dDIAuZj6RKY9JjXYk7ea2TR5y0zqrcJAt4cqj9AYCK3Q9gGw3Yy0PAhAC9rDgXAi0d5tSh4ZL0mxeNHMyy1OXkeCdt3RhS25WdvYKGOswbM1JpnT6rxVZgW-Jmzydf_mVEXa5w/s1600/Arrow+3+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicL5hp-dDIAuZj6RKY9JjXYk7ea2TR5y0zqrcJAt4cqj9AYCK3Q9gGw3Yy0PAhAC9rDgXAi0d5tSh4ZL0mxeNHMyy1OXkeCdt3RhS25WdvYKGOswbM1JpnT6rxVZgW-Jmzydf_mVEXa5w/s1600/Arrow+3+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the big "likes" on Kayla's list was Denyse Schmidt, so other than the low-volume neutrals and the arrow shaft (because wood), all of the prints featured come from one of Denyse's collections - I think there are three different lines represented in all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfMlWB0LLnp9zqEf5XqwWFl-Wi7ISRjY4sCdqX1-9LKcCZmtEO4oM5TSwguAZ3B9SSqAcYOnRXi5lBmAnKf3z_gXkJb2oG4xntHUjlblmXq87jn6Y4e8Xg9lmwYXxbGOxg76aBypZ9mvU/s1600/Arrow+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfMlWB0LLnp9zqEf5XqwWFl-Wi7ISRjY4sCdqX1-9LKcCZmtEO4oM5TSwguAZ3B9SSqAcYOnRXi5lBmAnKf3z_gXkJb2oG4xntHUjlblmXq87jn6Y4e8Xg9lmwYXxbGOxg76aBypZ9mvU/s1600/Arrow+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I made one teeny mistake when paper-piecing this one that I didn't notice until I was quilting (and don't worry, the pattern itself is fine, this was all me), but I don't think it's terribly noticeable right away and you know, it makes it unique and stuff *wink*.<br />

<span style="text-align: left;">P.S. If you happened to me at <a href="http://www.quiltcon.com/">QuiltCon</a> a few weeks back, you might have just spotted the original Orion quilt hanging in the Massdrop booth. It just arrived back home last night and I'm so happy to see it again. Loaning out quilts/sending them anywhere without me makes me incredibly nervous!</span></div>

How's it going? Today I want to share a new free block pattern with you. It's courtesy of the lovely people at <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a> and is called the Single Wedding Ring.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsW-4R6EVnkzK2VPtpi9Aj5ROgRWGIAIhYkxgKPl8lSEgqthfzxf0TGgtUZfNMQ2TlubvnpoNbo5krwOaAxYAX48eRDcdL_-3XaCAMRw96scmefQJewXMutwVKHRQlrH0VVh2e3rhypR8/s1600/Single+Wedding+Ring+2+500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsW-4R6EVnkzK2VPtpi9Aj5ROgRWGIAIhYkxgKPl8lSEgqthfzxf0TGgtUZfNMQ2TlubvnpoNbo5krwOaAxYAX48eRDcdL_-3XaCAMRw96scmefQJewXMutwVKHRQlrH0VVh2e3rhypR8/s1600/Single+Wedding+Ring+2+500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
For my test version of this block I decided to stick with solids for both fabrics, which isn't something I normally do. I'm usually all about the bold colour and prints! I thought using just solids would work really well for this block though and I think I was right.<br />

I actually had quite a lot of fun putting this block together! I don't know what it is about me and HSTs but I'm pretty wild for them... you know, except that trimming part! I find myself using HSTs in a good 75% of the quilts I design, and I always think I must be a little bit crazy.<br />

The free pattern for the Single Wedding Ring block can be found <a href="http://static.fatquartershop.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/SingleWeddingRingBlock-Pattern.pdf">here</a>, however if you'd like a full pattern with more setting options you can purchase it <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/single-wedding-ring-pdf-quilt-pattern">from FQS</a> or even purchase <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/single-wedding-ring-quilt-kit">a kit</a> if that's your jam.<br />
<br />
This block is part of the FQS' Classic and Vintage series. If you've been following along with this one, you'll know that there are also video tutorials for each block and that this is the fourth so far. If you're a visual learner or a newer quilter who needs a bit of help with the steps, then these videos are perfect for you. The Single Wedding Ring video can be found <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puH0HijaLI8&feature=youtu.be">here</a> but be sure to check out the rest of FQS' great videos!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444369633774342122.post-86898217248873903262014-12-23T14:48:00.000-05:002014-12-26T22:06:21.332-05:00A Very Harry ChristmasHey y'all! With Christmas only a couple of days away, I thought I'd share a little project I made for my friend <a href="http://www.goldenwillowquilts.com/">Ale</a>. Ale and I originally met on Instagram and quickly bonded over our mutual love of both sewing and Harry Potter; we finally met in real life when I taught at Sewing Summit last year. Last Christmas we decided to exchange HP themed Christmas pillows and so (as Ale dubs it) "A Very Harry Christmas" was born! I never had the chance to share the pillow I made for Ale, but since Christmas is here again, I figured now is a great time!<br />

<br />
This picture was totally stolen from Ale since apparently I no longer have the pictures I took (they were on my phone that died). I used the same sketchy applique method that I outline in <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2013/09/tutorial-welcome-to-neighbourhood.html">this tutorial</a>; most of the pieces were traced onto fusible web using templates (like the letters), but some of the smaller bits (the socks, the snitch, etc) were drawn freehand. Like the <a href="http://www.kayeprince.com/2013/07/lumosnox.html">Lumos/Nox mini</a> I made, this pillow was also quilted with the Deathly Hallows.<br />

<br />
This is one of the only photos I have from when I was working on the pillow, but you can see the applique method a bit better. Most of the fabrics used come from Bonnie and Camille's Vintage Modern collection and the pillow is finished with an envelope-style back.<br />
<br />
In the spirit of the holidays, here is the Christmukkah card that Alex and I made and sent out.<br />

<br />
Since I forgot to take pictures before mailing all of the cards, I totally stole this one from my friend Tracey. Hmmm, I starting to detect a theme here... reminder to self: take your own pictures.<br />
<br />
I hope that you all have a lovely holiday season and get the chance to relax a bit. I'm uber-excited to have some time off work so that I can get down to the business of sewing - woot!Kaye Princehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12029925048268090807noreply@blogger.com5
