Welded + a Giveaway!

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? Have you guys heard about the great collaboration between Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop called AGF Stitched with Kimberly? This awesome little collaboration showcases fresh quilt designs from the AGF team and presented (for free) by FQS. Each pattern is also available as a video tutorial on the FQS YouTube. That's pretty cool in my book!

The third in this series is Welded. This quilt is on point! *chuckle*

Unfortunately my fabric did not arrive in time for me to actually begin work on my quilt top, but at least I can share the fun fabrics I picked out!

All of these fabrics were generously supplied by Art Gallery and I can't wait to use them! It's really hard to see in the pics, but the top splatter-y looking fabric is actually metallic... be still my fabric-loving heart! The fabrics come from a few of their newer collections including Imprint and Succulence, among others (and, in case you're wondering, the awesome metallic is from Succulence). I chose the text print (from Happy Home) for the backing and I just love it so much! It reminds me of everyone's favourite Ikea text print, but soooo much better!

Both a quilt kit and a backing set using fabrics from the Artisan are available from FQS to go along with the Welded pattern. The free PDF pattern is available right here and the tutorial is available on FQS' YouTube! Go forth and make all the quilts!!

Now, to make up for my inability to review the pattern and my lack of a finished quilt to share, I thought we'd do a giveaway. Because, you know, everyone loves a good giveaway!

Because I'm really feeling this right now, I am giving away a fat quarter bundle in the laguna night colourway from Katarina Roccella's Imprint collection for AGF. Isn't is lovely?!

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:

1. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (October 1st) and announce the winner here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

If you would like to check out the other super-cool bloggers participating in the Welded hop, take a gander at the list below and visit on my dear friends. You know, after you enter the giveaway, and stuff...

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? I thought it was about time we had another little fabric giveaway and the lovely folks over at Fat Quarter Shop agreed! Now this little bundle of loveliness may already be sitting in my cart waiting for me at FQS, and I hope you like it just as much as I do.

This beauty of a fat quarter bundle contains the Air colourway from April Rhodes' most recent collection Wanderer. Isn't it gorgeous?! I had the pleasure of meeting April at spring Quilt Market last year and she is truly a generous and sweet lady.

Now, as I said, this little bundle is already sitting in my cart waiting for me, but I was also thinking about purchasing a small amount of yardage to have stashed, but I can't decide which print I like more. Maybe you can help?

This is Gust of Leaves Silver...

And this is Temple of Asiaq. So hard to choose!

So, well, enough about my inability to make a decision,  I bet you want to know how to enter right?

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:
1. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite
collection from FQS' Pre-Order Section is.

Fat Quarters: Small Fabrics, More Than 50 Big Ideas + a Giveaway!

Hey y'all! So, as usual, over the past while I have been up to some secret antics and I finally get to reveal one of those secrets!

I'm in another book and I'm so excited about it! Fat Quarters: Small Fabrics, More Than 50 Big Ideas, edited by Lark Crafts, features over 50 fat quarter friendly projects. Many of the contributors are well known in the craft world and I'm super-happy to be among them. I have three projects in this book and I can't wait to share them with you.

© Lark Crafts
This is my Arrowhead Clutch. It requires three fat quarters and features paper-pieced triangles. I absolutely love the way they photographed it for the book - it looks so fancy! I used fabrics from Indian Summer by Sarah Watson and Kaufman Quilter's Linen.

© Lark Crafts
This is my Flex Frame Sunglasses Pouch. It requires two fat quarters and is super-easy to make. For this one I used fabrics from Briar Rose by Heather Ross and Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander. I've actually been using this ever since it came back because I dropped my iPod and now the screen is cracked. See, it works for so many things!

© Lark Crafts
And last, but not least, this is my Cheers Coaster Set. I love these so much, I can't even tell you! This pattern requires four fat quarters and features a little bit of sketchy applique as well as a few lines of quilting. For these I used the same fabric from Architextures, as well as Constellations and Pearl Bracelets by Lizzy House.

Now, I bet you want to know about the giveaway, right? Well, here's your chance to win a copy of the book!

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:
1. Leave a comment letting me know about your favourite use for fat quarters.

Sooo, up for grabs we have a Pony Express Remix bundle! This bundle includes 15 fat quarters that have been chosen from each of the five C+S' designers debut collections, as well as a couple of prints from their basics collection.

As I mentioned before in one of my Quilt Market posts, this mix-able quality is one of my most favourite things about the C+S collections. Ohhh, look at those mustangs, and arrows, and crosses, etc, etc, etc...

So, I bet you want to know how to enter right?

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:

Giveaway Time - a Moon Shine Aurifil Box!

Hey y'all! How's it going? It's been a little while since we've done a giveaway and I thought, since Fat Quarter Shop is celebrating their 11th anniversary, that now seemed like the perfect time!

This time around I'm giving away something a little different and I really hope you like it...

Ohhhh, what could this be?! Why, it's one of the brand-spanking new Aurifil thread boxes designed to coordinate with Tula Pink's not-yet-released Moon Shine collection.  This particular box is the Dandelion colourway but threads to coordinate with Moon Shine are also available in the Meadow and Strawberry colourways. I was lucky enough to receive a few fat quarters of this new collection while I was at Quilt Market, and let me tell you, it is gorgeous!

This awesome little box contains 10 spools (220 yards each) of Aurifil 50wt. cotton thread - isn't it pretty? If I had any disposable income right now, I would be buying one of each of these little boxes for myself - totally jealous! And just in case you wanted to see a little more about the thread (and other Tula awesomeness), FQS shot this little video with Tula at Quilt Market.

To celebrate their anniversary, FQS is offering a shipping sale, so if there's anything over there that you want, I say hop to it now!

Now I bet you want to know how to enter the giveaway right? Well, here ya go!

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:
1. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite
collection from FQS' Coming Soon section is.

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

Magazine Feature + a Giveaway!

Hey y'all! How ya doing? Look at me, blogging after only two days - I think I'm doing pretty good at jumping back on the bandwagon!

Back in the fall, I was approached by Quilter's Connection magazine about contributing to their Spring 2014 issue all about 'modern quilting'. I've previously worked with the magazine before when I was interviewed in my capacity as President of the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild (have I mentioned yet that I resigned as President at the end of 2013?) and was tickled to be asked again. While I wasn't able to contribute a brand new design to the magazine because of time constraints and prior commitments, I gave the magazine permission to republish my Ziggy Zaggy Table Topper pattern which originally appeared on the blog way back in 2011.

In case you haven't heard of Quilter's Connection, it is a Canadian magazine, published out of British Columbia by the lovely Heather. I'm not sure if it is available in the US, but I know it can be found in stores across Canada and is also available as both a physical and digital subscription.

The table topper shown in the main pattern picture is the one I made back in 2011, but then QC had another one made to show another colour option. I always like it when magazines do this because it helps the reader to see how a design could fit with their own personal aesthetic.

Hey look, it's me! Since I'm usually the one taking the pictures, this was one of the only ones I had to send to Heather for my little bio. I probably should do a head shot at some point in time.

This issue also features designs from Cheryl Arkison (who is rad) and a slew of other great Canadian quilters. I feel like I'm in good company.

As you can see from the first picture in this post, I received four copies of magazine. You know what that means, right? It's giveaway time! One lucky person will win a copy of the magazine - woot! Here's what you've got to do:

1. Leave a comment letting me know what is your most favourite thing
about your particular country of residence.

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (on March 28th) and announce the winner here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

A Little Catch-Up + the Giveaway Winners!

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing after the holidays? I'm pretty much wiped out, but it was nice to see everyone. I'll post all of the crafting I did for holiday gifts soon, but I've got something else to share today. This should tell you exactly how behind I am - this particular project was finished in mid-October and I'm only just getting around to blogging it now! Since my computer is still broken, I am just getting further and further behind with sharing everything.

It's a tablet case! I bought the Nexus 7 in October as a birthday present to myself and it's what I've been using for email, internet, etc during this time without my computer. It's very similar to other cases I've made using Amber's tutorial before but this time I included a patchwork pocket on the front (and again, it's re-sized from the original tutorial). The main body of the sleeve is yarn-dyed Essex and the patchwork pocket features a bunch of scraps from my bin.

I used an Art Gallery print for the interior because the cotton is really soft and I thought it would be nice next to the tablet. I accidentally made the tab closure too big but didn't notice until I had the whole thing sewn together, so I just doubled it up over itself and tacked it down by going over the topstitching line again.

Now, this is super-late but (better late than never) I thought you'd like to know who the two winners of the Botanics Roll Ups from Fat Quarter Shop are! Here we go...

Megan from A Little Bit of my Life
and
Jessica from Quilt Habit

Congratulations ladies! Please email me with your addresses and Fat Quarter Shop will get your Roll Ups out to you! I'm a wee bit jealous since I don't have any Botanics and want some sooo much!

That's it for now. I hope you all recover from the holiday madness quickly!

Giveaway Time: Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? Since it's Hanukkah (and I just like giving things away), I thought it was high-time that we had another little giveaway! I think everyone is going to pretty excited about this one...

Eeek! Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander!! Guys, I totally want to win this for myself - Botanics just makes my heart sing.

My good pals over at Fat Quarter Shop are letting me giveaway two roll-ups to two separate winners - woot! That's a whole lotta love.

Yum! While I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Carolyn in person (no Quilt Market for me the last couple of years), she seems like a pretty neat lady - you can read an interview with her over here on the Fat Quarter Shop blog.

So I bet you'd like to know how to win, right?

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:
1. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite
collection from FQS' Coming Soon section is.

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (December 10th) and announce the two winners here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Jelly Roll Jam + a Giveaway!!

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? I've got something fun to share with you guys! The folks over at Fat Quarter Shop are sharing their first "shortcut quilt" with a free pattern and video tutorial. Not only is this quick little pattern free but the video tutorial is free to view on YouTube too - how neat is that?

Fat Quarter Shop was kind enough to send me a Jelly Roll of BasicGrey's PB&J test the pattern out - so cute! This top came together so quick and easy! Unfortunately, with preparing for Sewing Summit and all ('I'm up to my armpits in alligators' as my mum would say), I wasn't able to get this little guy quilted up but I will!

This pattern uses half of a Jelly Roll for a 36x36" top - that means that you can make two sweet little baby quilts from one Jelly Roll - awesome!

This pattern is very beginner friendly and would be quite easy to quilt on a home machine- just good things all around! I cannot say enough about how simple this was to do - really, you should give it a try!

So I bet you want to know about the giveaway, huh? Well, to celebrate the release of the Jelly Roll Jam pattern, Fat Quarter Shop and I are offering one lucky reader the chance to win this...
A Lush Uptown Jelly Roll by Erin Michael for Moda- woot! Now I bet you want to know how to enter, right?

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:

1. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite Jelly Roll at FQS is.
(oh, and just a little FYI, all Jelly Rolls are 20% off this week to celebrate the release of Jelly Roll Jam)

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (September 23rd) and announce the winner here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

Another Vox Case + the Giveaway Winner!

Hey y'all! Some of you may remember the Kobo Vox case I made my mum two Christmases ago, well, I made another one.

This one is for my mum's friend D. She not-so-subtly hinted that maybe I should make a case for her Vox too seeing as she does my taxes every year (for free *cough*). For those of you who don't know, a Kobo Vox is a tablet e-reader similar in many ways to the 7" Kindle Fire.

If you saw the post with my mum's case, you'll notice that I used the same fabric but in a different colourway. It's pretty hard to say no to fabric with books on it for this purpose and D's favourite colour is pink. Plus, knowing my mum and D, they will probably think it's a hoot that they have matching cases to go with their matching readers. Girls.

The exterior fabric is from the Grand Tour by Victoria and Albert for David's Textiles and the interior solids is one of the newer Kona colours which I believe is called Iron. Once again, I resized Amber's iPad cover tutorial to fit the Vox (which is a really great tutorial!), which was a feat in and of itself let me tell you! I didn't have any measurements written down from my mum's case (I probably did at the time) so I had to figure out the adjustments all over again; I'm really hoping the Vox fits well since I didn't have one in front of me this time either to test out as I went. I hope she likes it.

So, I bet you want to know who won the giveaway?! Well, without further ado, the winner of the Winter's Lane fat quarter bundle is...

Congratulations Amy! Please send me an email with your mailing address and the good folks over at Fat Quarter Shop will get your bundle out to you!

It's Giveaway Time - Winter's Lane!

Hey y'all! So, it's giveaway time again - woot! Once again, the lovely folks at Fat Quarter Shop and I have teamed up to bring you some pretty awesome swag.

This time around we're giving away a fat quarter bundle of Winter's Lane from Kate & Birdie Paper Co. for Moda. This is a really great winter-themed collection, but one of the things I really like about it is that many of the prints could easily be incorporated into sewing year-round. The greys are my absolute favourite! It's been awhile since I've seen a winter-themed collection that doesn't scream "CHRISTMAS!", so this is just great.

Yep, super-pretty. I think I definitely need reams that print that looks a bit like pine branches, especially in the grey (and the ice-blue).

Okay, so I guess you want to know how to enter, right? You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:

1. Leave a comment letting my know which item (fabric, pattern, bundle, etc)
is your favourite from FQS' Coming Soon page.

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (on May 28th) and announce the winner here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

PB&J Giveaway Winner!

Hey ya'll! So I am a total dope and forgot to announce the winner of the PB&J fat quarter bundle during my last post (I'm blaming it on sleep deprivation)! Here we go - the winner is...

Congratulations Amy! Please send me an email with your address and the lovely people at Fat Quarter Shop will send your bundle out! To everyone else: If you haven't stopped by Amy's blog, The Needled Fig, I highly recommend you do - she makes cute things!

Also, I just wanted to say thank you so much to those people who left comments on my last post with suggestions on how to work around my new schedule and get some crafting done. There are some really great tips there and if anyone else has any ideas please feel free to leave a comment on that post too!

It's Giveaway Time - BasicGrey's PB&J!

Hey y'all! Once again, the lovely folks over at Fat Quarter Shop and I are teaming up to bring you a lovely giveaway! Oh yes, it is nice...

This time around we're giving away a fat quarter bundle of BasicGrey's brand new PB&J! This line is so new that only the pre-cuts are available so far (but the yardage should be available nearer the end of this month). I'm really loving the colours in this collection - very sophisticated, yet still fun, and the prints are great! I want the whole collection, but I definitely want reams of that white-ish grunge - I think it would make a fabulous background choice for a quilt I have in mind.

Yep, so pretty and yummy!

My FQS Blogger's Bundle + a Giveaway!

Hey y'all! So I've been keeping this little secret under warps (although you may have heard about it if you follow me on Instagram) but it's finally time for the reveal. A couple of months ago I was asked by Fat Quarter Shop to make up one of their super-awesome Blogger's Bundles. What, who me?! Well, of course, I'd love to!

This is my bundle - what do you think?! I must say... I'm loving it! Picking a Blogger's Bundle is not the easiest thing in the world; first of all, there are so many new amazing fabrics out there. When I first started picking my fabrics, I was overwhelmed by the selections and picked a whole bunch that were in no way cohesive, so then I ended up picking out my solids and going from there.

Oh ya, that's the stuff! Yep, I'm pretty much in love with the eggplant, saffron, and slate colours I built off of.

So, I bet you want to know about the giveaway, right?!

Alright, up for grabs right now, I have one of my Blogger's Choice Bundles! To be entered, here's what you need to do:

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry.

1. Leave a comment letting know what the three colours are that
you would base a Blogger's Choice bundle off of!

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will choose the winner one week from now (on December 20th) and announce it here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

Fat Quarter Shop is also doing a giveaway on their blog for my bundle right now, so if you want the chance to win a second bundle, I'd hop on over there!

Blogathon Canada + a Giveaway!

Hey y'all! If you've been here before - welcome back, I love you! If you're new to these parts feel free to put your feet up on my coffee table and stay a little while!

Today is Ontario's turn for Blogathon Canada; that means Cathi, Cara, and myself are welcoming you to our little corner of the world! I have not had the pleasure of meeting Cara as she lives in London, Ontario, but Cathi is the extremely lovely lady who gifted me (just about three years ago now) with the sewing machine that I still use to this day. If you don't know that story, you can read more about it here.

Well, let's see, I guess you'd like to know a little about me, right?

I live in downtown Toronto with my partner of four years, Alex (that's us with the popsicle stick snowflakes we made at our friends' American Thanksgiving party this past week). I am a librarian by trade, but am currently working freelance writing quilting, sewing, and cross stitch patterns, as well as articles, for various publications including Stitch Craft Create and Quilts & More. I also have my own independent line of patterns which can be found here and here.

I have been crafty all me life but began quilting a few years ago when a friend from high school was getting married - I randomly decided that I wanted to make her a quilt and just jumped in fully dressed. I didn't even realize at the time that there was such a thing as a quilt pattern so I just made up my own and that's basically what I've been doing ever since.

In June 2010 I was asked to take over the presidency of the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild and have been President ever since. In July the TMQG was asked to participate in the Quilts at the Creek show at Black Creek Pioneer Village and this is me with two of my quilts. The one on the left is Mine Shaft and the one of the right is The Geese Have Landed.

To celebrate our little blogathon, here are some other Ontario blogs that you can visit:

Dresden Quilter

And here's a few I've added myself:

Thought & Found
Finger Thumb
Sky's Slate
The Enchanted Bobbin

Well, how's about the giveaway now then?

To celebrate the Blogathon, Sew Sisters is offering one lucky reader of my blog the chance to win the above bundle which includes one metre of the chevron print from Down Under by Mint Blossom and four coordinating Kona fat quarters in White, Deep Blue, Chartreuse, and Leprechaun.

You have two chances but please be sure to leave separate comments for each entry. Here's what you've got to do:
1. Leave a comment letting know what your favourite solid colours are!

2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.

That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! The giveaway is only open for one day so jump on it now!!

International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

Hot Air Balloons + the Giveaway Winners!

As many of you know I am part of the Joy Circle for do. Good Stitches; October's block was chosen by Elaine and was such fun to make!

Hot air balloons!!! This is a paper piecing pattern available for free from Quiltmaker Magazine (you can find it here). In the original version the balloon part is done using one fabric (as with my version on the right) but Elaine told us to go ahead and do anything we wanted with our balloons, so I did the second one kind of scrappy and just paper pieced the strips into the available space on the balloon template. For both the background is a light blue Kona (sorry, can't remember which one) and the baskets and stems are also Kona (I believe it is Mocha). The balloon on the right was made using some Tula Pink Prince Charming, and the balloon on the left is a mix of scraps from Parisville, Modern Meadow, Terrain, and Dream On.

So, I bet you want to know who won the super-awesome Simply Fat Quarters giveaway, eh? Well, drum roll please!! We have four winners...

The three winners of a copy of Simply Fat Quarters are... Krista of Poppyprint, Stephanie of Sewing by Stephanie, and Allison of Dreaming in Patchwork.

The mega-big winner of a copy of the book as well as the Chicopee fabric to make the Poppy quilt is... Caitlin of Salty Oat Modern Quilts!

Congratulations ladies! Please send me an email with your address so that I can have Fat Quarter Shop ship your winnings out to you!

I'm also participating in a fun little blogathon featuring all Canadian quilters and blogs! The blogathon is being hosted by Sew Sisters (a quilting shop right here in Toronto) and is a great chance to find some new blogs - there will also be giveaways at each stop along the way (the giveaways are open internationally, not just to Canadians). Here is the list of participating bloggers (along with the province/territory the reside in):
