A Giveaway, an Injury, and Some Knitting!

Alright alright, I know that I promised I'd have some finished projects to share with y'all but unfortunately last week, the day after I last blogged, I was injured at work and haven't touched my sewing machine or picked up a needle and thread since. I'm okay but in a freak kind of accident my right arm ended up getting caught between a wall and a truck full of oversize books which not only caused my arm to get jammed up but also bent my right hand backwards leaving me with a sprained wrist (thank goodness it's not broken!!) and since I'm right-handed that has meant that I've been able to accomplish very little this past week. It's feeling much better now, just a bit achy, and I'm going to try using the sewing machine tonight - wish me luck!

As a means of giving my wrist a little workout without doing something that requires too much strength or puts too much pressure on my wrist I've been working on a new knitting project since Monday!


This is the Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief which is a free pattern that I found on Ravelry. I'm using Madelinetosh Tosh DK in Kale and can not wait for it to be finished! Of course I won't be wearing it now with the weather so warm but I am so looking forward to wearing it in the Fall - Fall is my favourite by the way! The knitting is going much slower than usual with my bum wrist (and let me tell you I am not a fast knitter to begin with) and the purling might just be the death of me, but the pattern is really great and I know that I will wear this all the time once I get the chance! Rav'd here!

So as a means of smoothing over any waves that I might have created by not sharing a finished project - although I know you all forgive me - I thought I'd host a little giveaway! Not that I really need an excuse to host a giveaway!


This is Jessica Levitt's new collection Kingdom which was just released on August 1st! Windham Fabrics sent me this lovely little stack of fabric late last week and I decided to share it with you! In the interest of full disclosure I want to say that yes, Windham did send me this fabric, however they did not ask me to give any of it away on my blog - I came up with that part myself!


I will pick a few of the cuts to send to one lucky winner... here's what you need to do to enter:

    Oh I just really love the bright colors! So very eye catching. I am sure these would be in either couch pillows or a table runner for my coffee table , I have this huge coffee table which is actually an antique dining table top turned into a coffee table and these colors would really set the wood off nicely.

    Oh no, your poor wrist! I hope the rest of the recovery process is smooth and swift.

    I just got an ereader (due to wrist problems of my own, heh—it's hard on a sore wrist to hold a hardcover book!), and have been working on cute sleeves for it that match my various purses. I suspect that this fabric would turn into a patchwork handbag like this one I made and a coordinating kobo sleeve or several.

    I love the combination of the colors moreso than any one fabric. I love blues and greens, but that addition of purple is very pretty! I would love to make some fabric baskets for my daughters room!

    I would use some of it for my hexagon quilt, save the selvages for my selvage quilt and then I would probably make a little quilt for my granddaughter. I love the purples, especially with the lime green!

    I really love the white background fabrics and those blues or aquas. My faves are the mod flowers and lined boxes. i think I would make a table topper.

    Oh ouch about the arm and hand. I know all too well about attempting to do anything without one of your hands. It's horribly frustrating. I had two different hand surgeries last year on both of my hands; yes four surgeries total. I did the left hand and then six months later the right. I am still having problems with a huge lack of strength in both and loss of the capability to use with any strength or pinching capability very much. I sure hope you heal quickly and won't need to deal with anything more than to just rest and let it heal. Good luck.

    I would love to win that fabric. I have been loving purple and lime green together lately so that would be my first choice. What I would make I honestly am not going to lie and say something because I am not sure right this second. I think it would be either part of a quilt or maybe a purse but don't hold me to that.

    Oooh! I saw these this morning on Sew, Mama, Sew! Love them! My girls are so into princesses they would love purple crowns. I love the three on top of that stack and the white on the top of the other! They're all great actually. I have all the ideas about how to embellish the hems of simple skirts with contrasting fabrics but I haven't quite worked it all out yet. I also want to try adding patch pockets to some simple plain jumpers.

    I have a couple of things I want to make... (of course). A cell phone wallet (Valori Wells sewing card is winging its way to me) seems to be the top of the list for small projects, though I really want to make myself a bag as well, but am undecided on the pattern yet.

    My favorite print of them is Posy in Opal. I love the delicate icy shades and the art nouveau styling.

    Owie, your poor wrist! Hope it feels much better soon, and that you got good drugs to take the pain away! Actually, I always say that, and yet I have hypermobility syndrome, am frequently injured, and am allergic to all but paracetemol, which does nothing, damnit, so I have no idea what the good drugs feel like lol So I wish for the good drugs for everyone else that's more normal... ;o)

    Anywho, I would make some bags with these I think. I'm sewing my way through Amy Butler's bags at the moment, and I think I need some new fabrics :o) I like the blues, greens and purples (so, uh, pretty much all of it lol)

    And people think that working in a library must be such a nice genteel type of job. Oh yes, and you get to read a lot! NOT! Some days it can be a workout - those loaded bookcarts, rearranging stacks, weeding, moving 20 years of bound journals to make space, cutting yourself making up the folding boxes for journals, straightening a shelf of books and having the bookend give way resulting in a pile of books sliding onto your head etc etc. Oh yes, a nice quiet job indeed.

    I like the really graphic blue and grey print with all of the lines - I think its called something to do with castle or building. I'm really liking this whole colourway - I think it would make a great double jack wall hanging - a favourite pattern I stumbled upon one morning of blog following.

    Good luck with the hand-mending...I saw these lovely prints when you were running the quilt guild (I was in the back, sewing away)
    If I won I would use the purples to start making a christmas tree skirt for my mother-in-law. I have this wacky idea of making it reversible - one side purple and pink for Advent, the other side red, green and white for Christmas.

    I hope you feel better! I twisted my right ankle/knee playing softball on Thursday and was worried that using my sewing machine pedal would be a problem, but luckily not (especially since I'd taken Friday off work to quilt!). The knitting is a fantastic substitute - great color/pattern!
    I love this line - may have to buy a bundle with all of them, but I'm especially partial to the lights and the turquoise/purple. I'm not sure of the design yet, but I definitely want to make a quilt out of it!
