That's right, I've got a project in the Fall 2012 issue of Stitch Craft Create magazine, woot! This is the Midnight Owl Mug Rug and I am in love with it (I am allowed to say that when it's my own project? Oh well)!
This cute little guy combines both patchwork and cross stitch into a quick and fun seasonal project. The colours used here are more modern-Halloween inspired but you could easily change them to reflect another season or decor-style. The pattern includes the instructions (um, ya, obviously Kaye) as well as the cross stitch chart and floss key.
I used a mix of solids and prints from various collections; I think both the blue and green solids are Free Spirit and the grey is Kona (Medium Grey, I believe). There are a couple of Kate Spain prints, some Tula Pink, Laurie Wisbrun, Sandi Henderson, and a bat print from one of the older incarnations of The Ghastlies.
I just had to show the backing because I love the way that it works with the colours in the front! It's a print from Nel Whatmore's Sleeping Beauty that I had leftover from the Flying North block tutorial. The thread colour I used here for quilting is one of my absolute favourites - it's Gutermann #860 is a really lovely shade of golden orange-yellow.
This issue is available on newsstands now and features lots of really rocking projects! But wait!! Maybe you'd like to win your very own copy instead?! Well, one lucky person will since I have an extra copy just hanging about here (there were actually three copies but my mum scooped one and obviously one is mine)! Here's what you gotta do:
1. Leave a comment letting my know what your most favourite thing about Fall is.
Fall is my favourite season so I'd like to hear what you think!
(If you don't have Fall where you live just come up with something fun to tell me!!)
2. Leave another comment if you are a follower of my blog.
That's it! Two easy-peasy ways to enter! I will close the comments in a week (on September 4th) and announce the winner here on the blog. International entries are, as always, welcome! Also, please remember that I have comment moderation enabled so if you don't see your comment right away it just means that I haven't had the chance to approve it yet (duplicate comments will be deleted).

ReplyDeleteAround my house, fall means LOTS of leaves on the ground - from our over 200 trees. So my favorite thing about fall is the yard guy coming in November and chewing them all up with his tractor! No more raking for us!! We can enjoy them on the ground without the work....

I love the stormy nights!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I love owls, cross stitch, and patchwork so this is perfect in my eyes. During Autumn I look forward to Bonfire night on November 5th, in England we have bonfire parties and fireworks including the ceremonial burning of Guy Fawkes. Of course there is lots of yummy food to be had that night, we always had toffee apples and cinder toffee as a child. Thank you for the giveaway.

Hi Kaye! I'm so looking forward to fall this year -- it's been a hot summer here! So I guess my favorite thing about fall is wearing light sweaters again :)
ReplyDeleteOur fall is kind of random on how it presents here, but my favorite is when it suddenly gets dark in the middle of the day, and a thunder and lightening storm starts up with a giant wind that makes you feel like you're going to be blown away! It doesn't happen too often but I have such great memories of that as a kid walking home from school that it always sticks with me!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower too, thank you for the giveaway! For some reason I haven't gotten my hands on a copy of this magazine before even though it always looks like it has great projects.
ReplyDeleteI loved the colors of the fall leaves and the winds. :)

ReplyDeleteI love the cool crisp days in fall.
ReplyDeleteWe are just leaving Winter and into Spring, but it's still cool enough for hot chocolate and cinnamon toast to still be on the afternoon tea menu for the school kids when they get home at the end of the day!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big owl fan, and love the owl mug rug. Hmmmm something funny to tell you....maybe I shouldn't scare you at how twisted my warped sense of humour is lol
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll stick to saying that my favourite thing about Autumn (Fall) is that it means it's getting closer to Christmas and all the fun things associated with it, but that you still have a bit of time left up your sleeve to prepare for it!
