I've Been Baking Again...and a Little Giveaway!

Oh yes, I've been baking over at the Moda Bake Shop again! This is the last of the February pattern-tutorials that I've been keeping under wraps!


I'm pleased to introduce you to Summer Dreamin'! The idea for Summer Dreamin' was originally born out of the need for a splash of bright and cheery as the weather got cooler, something to remind oneself of the warmer days of Summer - something that would trigger the knowledge way down deep in your brain that those days will be here again.

I utilized precuts to create the traditional double-z block and show an interesting way that I came up with to cut and sew the fabric for the half-square triangles - I hope you all find it useful! I used Dream On by Urban Chiks and the quilt finishes at 64x80".


I just love the colours in this quilt and think that Dream On is just so neat in the way that it utilizes vintage sheet design and colouring. I decided to send the finished quilt to live with my grandparents and I really hope that they'll love it!

    I love your quilt! It reminds me of my grandma which is a REALLY good thing! (she was my favorite person and i still miss her even though she passed away 13 years ago! but i have LOTS of great memories!)

    Favorite...not-your-traditional-log-cabin-pillow. (I am just learning to quilt and it really fits that niche for me!)

    When I saw Summer Dreamin' at the Bakeshop this morning I thought, "I am for sure doing this one!" I'm a Palooza gal, so I'm kind of partial to the Geesey McNine Patch "toot." but I am going to have to give the log cabin pillow a try too!

    I bought all sorts of different green fabrics from a yard sale last year and have been wanting to make a quilt. I think I will be doing your Summer Dreamin'! I don't quilt as much as I would want to (mainly because I am so busy with garment making and my knitting), but I don't know if I can have the stamina to keep this quilt project untouched, especially with your new design out. It is just so beautiful!

    I think my fav of your other tutorials has to be the string blocks with the pieced centres. They're such a great way to use up all those scraps!

    I love the look of this! Since I collect charm packs instead of layer cakes, I'm going to try this as a wall hanging or table topper. This quilt is great!     Lovely, fresh take on a traditional pattern. Feels like spring! Good clear instructions on the multi-HST method, too (another oldie but goodie!).

    Also, I came by today not only to see if you had a new post up, but because I wanted to find your tutorial for the pieced centre string block coasters (LOVE THEM - can't make enough of them, and therefore probably my favorite--so far). I'm going to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show on Saturday with my mom, and I just said to her, "I hope I find something that inspires me, because I really need to find a pattern that's perfect for my friend's birthday present." How cool is it that when I opened your blog, the Summer Dreamin' immediately screamed my friend's name?? SO COOL - love how you did the blocks, and can't wait to try.

    Summer Dreamin' is gorgeous! It is the perfect showcase for the beautiful Urban Chicks fabric, but would also work for vintage reclaimed linens or any bright, happy prints.

    This is the best design I've seen using Dream On - the all white pinwheels are wonderful. Of your other patterns, the Not-Your Traditional Log Cabin Pillow pattern caught my eye when saw it on sewmamasew. Of course, the HR fabrics used have a lot to do with the design.
